1. Find the points P and Q on the parabola y=1-x^2 so that the triangle ABC formed by the x-axis and the tangent lines at P and Q is an equilateral triangle.

2. Find the point where the curves y=x^3-3x+4 and y=3(x^2-x) are tangent to each other, that is, have a common tangent line.

3.A car is traveling at night along a highway shaped like a parabola with its vertex at the origin. The car starts at a point 100 m west and 100 m north of the origin and travels in an easterly direction. There is a statue located 100 m east and 50 m north of the origin. At what point on the highway will the car's headlights illuminate the statue?

4. Use linear approximation (or differentials) to extimate the given number:
sin(1 degree)

Answers to all or any of the questions would be great! Thanks!!!!

Find the equation of the plane through point (-1, 4, 2) that contains the line of intersection of the planes:
4x - y + z - 2 = 0 and
2x + y - 2z - 3 = 0

By making y = t, I found the intersecting line equation to be:
x = 7/10 + 1/10 t
y = t
z = -4/5 + 3/5 t.

So this direction is <1/10, 1, 3/5>

Where do I go from here? The answer in the back of the book is:
4x - 13y + 21z + 14 = 0

I'd appreciate any help.

I've got what I hope is a basic probability question...in a nutshell:

Assume that an event will only occur if three conditions are met. Each condition has an individual probability of occuring...for the sake of argument, condition 1 has a 1 in 5 chance, condition 2 has a 1 in 10 chance, and condition 3 has a 1 in 20 chance.

Using the individual probabilities, how do you determine the probability of the event occuring?

3) Styrofoam is a polymer containing carbon and hydrogen. Assume the formula is C8H8. How many molecules are in a 0.2 g styrofoam peanut? How many protons and electrons are in this peanut if it carries no excess charges? How many coulombs of positive and negative charge does this represent? If the peanut has an excess charge of 0.05C, how many of its electrons has it gained or lost?

I have a pocket PC with a USB charger that connects to the 220v wall plug. It gives 5 volts and 1 amp.

Then my brother lost his Motorola and gave me his charger. It's also USB, also 5 volts, but only 0.55 amps.

It would be convenient if I could have one more in use for the PDA. But... shall I try it? Is it safe?

Thanks in advance!
