Find the percent of the total area under a normal curve that is contained within the specified interval. Between the mean and 2.41 standard deviations from the mean.

I am having trouble doing the configuration for this. I do not understand how to do the computing on the calculator.

Any help would be appreciated.

Of course the answer is obvious. But my problem is that I have applied for the post of Assistant Treasurer of a the students astronomical society. And now I have to face an interview and also make a speech based on 'why i think im the best for this position'.

Do you simplify it like this:

13^4 / √(13^10)
13^4 / 13^5 (after √(13^10) = (13^10)^(1/2) = 13^5)
1/13

Or like this?:

13^4 / √(13^10)
(13^4)^2 / (√(13^10))^2 (square the numerator and denom.)
13^8 / 13^10
1/(13^2)
1/169

I need to do this without a calculator. I've tried addition/subtraction on the unit circle to get 17pi/5, but none of the combinations give me clean numbers to work with.

Also, cos^-1 if arc cosine, I believe (if you're unfamiliar with those signs).

We live in an age where reason, empiricism and science - if not exactly eroded, have to some extent, lost the high ground. It is not just the increasing belief in all things mystical and the increasing number of alternative therapies, faith healers and such (I make my nod to Richard Dawkins's current series here) but the way in which science, reason and empiricism have had such a poor showing against non-science, irrationality and everything which lacks empirical evidence; Andrew Wakefield's Lancet paper and the ensuing MMR debacle and Professor Roy Meadow's pronouncement on cot death are just two examples from the field that I work in, I'm sure you have many more from your respective fields.

Are we now on a slippery slope from which there is no way back or is there hope for science? I'd be very interested in your opinions.

First off x has to be a real number, here is the first problem:

27^2x = 9^x-3

The other problem is:

log x + log (x - 3) = 1
