The lunar eclipse on Aug 28 is the next astronomical event.
The next eclipse after that will be in February 2008, then October 2008.
Mars approaches Earth within 36 million miles about once every 780 days (called "opposition"). The next opposition is this December. Due to the orbits of Mars and Earth being ellipses, every 32 years Mars is at its closest approach - the last one was in 2003 when it got as close as 34.5 million miles from Earth.
In October will be the annual Orioinid meteor shower.
Other than that, any stories you've heard about "two moons in the sky" or "Mars will be close enough that it looks like the moon" are all complete trash.
And Ipsydoodle - cutting and pasting something you found somewhere without knowing the truth or accuracy of what you're copying is just perpetuating ignorance.

Well, other than the total eclipse of the moon on August 28 th, I do not know another. On the 12th and 13th there was the Perseid's meteor shower. On the 23rd, the of August the sun enters Virgo. These are not unusual, though, they happen every year during this time.
By the way, what LPSYDOODLE posted happened a few years ago and mars was just a little brighter, nowhere near the size of the moon!! Get your facts straight dude.

We do not know what announcement you are talking about. Is it the lunar eclipse? Morning of August 29 in North America. Happens a few times every year.
Are you talking about the Mars hoax? It has been around (as a hoax) since 2004.
On 28 August 2003, at opposition, Mars was its closest to Earth in thousands of years (still, 35 million miles or so). At the time, one astronomer said: If you look at Mars through a telescope at 75x, it will look as big as the full Moon does to the eye.
The telescope part was quickly forgotten and the news got around that Mars would look as big as the Moon. Which, of course, it can never do (unless you look at Mars through a telescope while looking at the moon without the telescope...).
Every year since, the hoax has been repeated and there are people who cut and paste (or forward) the message without checking if it is true.
In 2007, in August, Mars is not even close to opposition. It is over a hundred million miles from Earth and you'd need a much stronger telescope to make it look as big as the Moon without a telescope.
In 2007, Mars will be in opposition in December. This is the closest Mars gets to us this year, and the biggest it will appear in 2007. It will still be about a hundred times smaller than the Moon.

Anyone who is ignorant enough to think that Mars could ever look as big as the moon, should not be posting answers here.
The Mars thing is nonsense. Mars always looks like a brightish star, and that is what it will always look like from Earth.
Jeez, if someone posted a piece about pigs flying people would believe that as well.

i actually do not want to describe in this . yet this entire element is out of order and packed with crap . How approximately you provide them time ? i think the toddlers circulate began in early 2010 . regardless of the reality that it quite is an prolonged time lower back, you won't be able to in basic terms make a toddlers circulate and immediately placed youthful superstars interior the main effective experience . you're able to provide them time to conform with it and paintings their way up their . The Miz, Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, John Morrison, Dolph Ziggler and a brilliant variety of others have already performed that . As for the others, that's the two their nonetheless working their way up there or they simply have not got it in them to important experience . i will assure you sometime, Drew McIntyre and Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes will all be important eventing . yet is Vince McMahon quite that stupid ? No . he's enable's them teach off what they have have been given, and in the event that they have not got the ''it'' ingredient, than they start on the backside of the ladder and attempt greater sturdy the subsequent time . possibly you could desire to think of earlier you place up . this question does not deserve as many stars as that's getting . i've got considered better .

Mars will be closest to earth and will not be back to this proximity in your lifetime.
"27th August; the day the Whole World is waiting for ......
Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting
August.
It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This
will cultivate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65 Million miles of earth.
Be sure to watch the sky on AUG. 27 12:30 a.m. It will look like the earth has 2 moons (I am skeptical but...). The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287."
Hey I just (cut and pasted) posted what I read - Sheesh. I said I was skeptical about the moon thing. Lighten up people!
