Because the prevailing winds in the lower latitudes are east to west.

If you look at the prevailing winds around the globe, you will see that they exist in bands south to north that alternate east to west and the next higher set is west to east.

Prevailing winds dominate (as clouds which produce the weather move along with winds) when small weather systems other than low and high pressure,hurricanes etc., occur, whereas when hurricanes arrive ,they dominate and affect the prevailing winds. This is the probable reason.

because they originate in Africa or in the south Atlantic and follow the southern jet stream which moves in a westerly direction
