If a vector space has a basis {e1, e2, ..., en} and x is some vector in that space, then for the equation:

x = x1e1 + x2e2 + ... + xnen
where x1, x2, ..., xn are the components of x

to hold, do the base vectors e1, e2, ..., en have to form a standard basis (i.e. the basis must be {(1,0,...,0), (0,1,...,0), ..., (0,0,...,1)})?

The National Weather Service just issued a Tornado Watch for my area. I know what to do in tornadoes, all the safety advice i Could know, I know . But even knowing all this, I just moved to VA, a year ago, and have never been in a tornado. And I am 12, and I am really scared of them. Anyone have any advice to overcome my fears?? And anyone that has ever been in a tornado, like the tornado actually hit where they were, have any stories on what it was like??? I would really appreciate it so if a warning goes out I can be less afraid of what might happen. Thank you so much!

What can we do to yahoo for this? I got 4 violation notices for telling kids to do their homework and frankly., no I did not learn.
I cannot believe that I am the one being told off when I am giving good advice!!!! I think that yahoo should be sued for this. What do you think?
Will they take responsibility when kids start failing???

and there is a machine where we have to weigh the sweets and the numbers come up on the screen like this:7.55, 6.35, 8.55.And they told me that if the number is like 6.55 it is the number 7 and if it is something like 4.35 it is the number 3 and then you have to add it to the number on the sheet.But I dont understand how to do this but would like to learn as I will be expected to do this one day and my other work colleagues could use this against ,me in any argument it is most definitely my achilles heel at that job. How do I teach myself this form of mathematics?I think it is fractions, my maths was never that good when I was growing up.

Can any astronautical boffins give me a rough estimate of how fast you'd have to go to get to the nearest solar system/s to ours? Return journey, what's the point on going if you can't come back and tell people? Bonus points if the elpased time on earth can be worked out too.

Science fiction [SF] writers have often been able to predict future[s], or so it seems. Is this the case or are we just copying from SF.

For example; the cell phone [mobile phone] first seen in the 1960s TV series "Star Trek" [beam me up Scottie].

Did we just copy that idea or was it a prediction?

NASA confessed they designed their set up on the Star Ship Enterprise. Copyists then!
