Oh yeah, Mercury is certainly one of the prime spots for colonization. NOT!!!!!

Why?

There is no atmosphere, the daylight side is horribly hot, and the dark side extremely cold (the day is almost as long as the year, so one is in the dark for a period that is a couple of earth's months long, then in the light of the same length of time) there is no water.

And to make and send out a few thousand ships would cost all of the gross domestic product of the whole planet for several years.

So, no, no one with a properly working head would go for such a project.

Mercury is too close to the Sun. We should start with a few small ships taking people to the Moon, Mars or the moons of the outer planets.

Mercury is a useless planet, as far as I'm concerned. Whatever materials that are there would require a mobile base that would move along the day/night line in order to have *reasonable* temperatures. The surface of the planet actually melts and refreezes daily.

Now that is a project that should be led by the executive, legislative and judicial branches of the federal government just to make sure it's safe for the rest of us!

You mean Mercury. It's too hot there...wait...yes, send a few ships of fundies there that way they'd really get a taste of Hell.

No, I think as a species we've overpopulated and done enough damage to this planet. Why mess up the rest of our solar system too? Is nothing sacred?

Yeah, maybe George Bush could try Mercury walking first!

Oh, NO - that is silly! Way too hot! Maybe to mars. Now that might be productive.

But we need to go to the moon first to "practice" survival skills that will be needed on Mars.
