The purchasing manager for a firm is trying to determine what the safety stock should be for a particular product. She has developed the following table, which gives the distribution of demand during the lead-time and the probabilities:

Demand during lead time / probability
40/ 0.2
50/ 0.25
60/ 0.25
70/ 0.2
80/ 0.1
The carrying cost is $5 per unit per year, the ordering cost is $30 per order, and the stockout cost is $40 per unit. The reorder point is 60 units, and 6 orders are placed each year. What level of safety stock should be maintained?
ROP (reroder point)=d (daily demand) x L (order lead time) +SS (safety stock)
I don't know how to solve it.

This may be a dumb question, but if the supernova remnant (the Crab Nebula, for example, which is theorized to be the remnant of a star that was recorded as having been witnessed exploding in 1054 A.D.) was once one star, then how can many stars form and continue forming from the remaining material (not even all of the material) of the one original star?

I would like to know which one of these involves more mathematics. Always been asking myself that question.
I always thought it was Civil engineering, but I'd like to know if I'm right, please explain me how they differ, in other ways other than mathematics. The articles I've read before haven't satisfied me enough.

Anyways, just courious what you would think....Is it relativly safe to have a few beers a few hours before I take my bedtime 250mg depakote?

I just need a little hint for this, I would like to be able to figure it out myself.

Calculate the pH of a soln of acetic acid that is 3% ionized, Ka = 1.8 x 10^-5.

Since I don't have M of the solution, I can't solve by
% ionization = [H+}Equil / [HA]i

please help me understand what approach to take. Thank you in advance.

Science doesn't enter discussion about intelligent design, or astrology simply because there's no real evidence to say it's real...so doesn't that implicitly mean there's no god? (else science would explore it as it does everything else it can show evidence to be real)
