Directional selection is basically a part of natural selection. It only occurs when the environment changes and nature itself would select those who are well adapted to the changed environment. However, we are now able to change the enviroment or counteract any selection pressure that has been exerted on us. So will this prevent us from evolving or just stabilising the way we are now?

I've met several senior engineers and have an impression that most (if not all) of them are allergic to NEMA. They prefer IEC for electric motors, even they dislike to see the word "TEFC".
How about you? Do they regard NEMA as "old engineering school" ?

A friend of mine told me that is a matter of mind over matter when we are facing stuff. Like in the winter if we want to warm up we think about fire in the fire place or a cup of warm coco. So why can't we take that Ideal and think snow in June or July? Snow wonderful cold wet beautiful snow fall in NY city would not that be so cool! Can you image the traffic stop because they could not believe their eyes. People stopping and wondering if the sky is falling as the snow hit their noses. It is just a thought!

Consider this statement of fact: The atoms we now perceive by our senses through the use of sense-enhancing instruments ,like the electron mictoscope and X-ray diffraction devices, were initially an imagined idea, or group of imagined ideas in the minds of Democritus and Leucippus. A t the time these Ancient Greek thinkers lived, there was no scientific evidence that atoms existed, The idea somehow arose in the imagination as they pondered on the nature of reality.
