Consider this statement of fact: The atoms we now perceive by our senses through the use of sense-enhancing instruments ,like the electron mictoscope and X-ray diffraction devices, were initially an imagined idea, or group of imagined ideas in the minds of Democritus and Leucippus. A t the time these Ancient Greek thinkers lived, there was no scientific evidence that atoms existed, The idea somehow arose in the imagination as they pondered on the nature of reality.

Clarificatory note: Last time I looked Imagination or imaginative t hinkingand Abstract-conceptual thinking were separate abilities. Pls address the former not the latter. I believe Piaget did so. Abstract-conceptual thinking is not a characteristic of low IQ's while imaginitive thinking is.

Yes, very important. I'd rather call it an ability to operate with abstract categories, and liking it.

imaginations is a crucial aspect to survival, it has been well documented in evolution theory. the hypotheses goes as followed.

imagination gives us the ability, to envision and predict what our actions may have as a result, before actually engaging in these actions. It is used to evaluate a situation beforehand, to judg the risks and weigh them against the rewards.

e.g. invisioning climbing up the tree, to get an apple, primitive man would have been able to predict, falling out of the tree, the branch breaking etc. and then be able to determin wether to go for the apple, or maybe go find some berries elsewhere.

the example you giave of atoms is not imagination though, it is deductive reasoning. things are not this way, so they must be that way.

If you don't know what intelligence means this does not mean that you do not possess it.
