One of my friends found this and was wondering what it was and I have no clue. I have two pictures of the insect in question and they were taken in a coastal town in Connecticut.

One of the varieties of hawkmoth. Some of these are called 'clearwings' or 'Hummingbird Hawkmoth'.

A hummingbird moth, I've even heard them called Sphinx moths, but I am not sure that this is correct. I see them all summer long in the plants in my garden that attract butterflies and hummingbirds, they are quite interesting and I've seen them about the size of a amall humming bird. I live in central Connecticut.

That is a Hummingbird moth he is lucky because they aren't common. We used to see them around my house when I was little but I have not seen one in years.
