For many years, scientist have used the Richter scale to measure the magnitude or strength of earthquakes. They now use the moment magnitude scale to measure the strength of larger earthquakes. Compare & contrast both types of scales.

HI. I'm doing research right now using MRI. The problem is I'm stuck. I'm very very stuck and don't know how to continue. I'm not managing to do the same as the articles I've read. And yes I have e-mailed the authours but get no response. I've emailed tons of people asking for help. But I remain very much stuck. I need to do something (called deconvolution) in order to continue. I just don't know how to do it and go further. What do you do when you get stuck in research?

embryo, would you consider having the "treatment" if you were trying to conceive a child? Just wondering what people's attitudes are about such an ethical problem.

I'm confused. I DO know the facts and it dosen't make sense to me. IF God didn't crete the hevans and earth, how does matter exist? I don't get it.
Also how did DNA form, my Mac computer didn't form by lightning hitting a pile of garbbage. Did it? If I told you that you would say I was an idiot. Yes you would don't lie.
I would like real awnsers to my questions please and NOT discrimantion of creation. I do beleive in creation, but evolution makes sense because God COULD have breathed life on the world. But, where did all the matter come from?

I'm given a MEAN (83) and a STANDARD DEVIATION (10).

Then it asks where 95% of the distrubution is to fall?

The distrubution is mound-shaped.

How can I figure this out? I have 5 more problems like it and I can't get any of them. I've only been taught to get the 75%, 88.9%, and 93.5% distrubutions AND I've never been taught how to take the SHAPE of the distrubution into consideration.

I can't find the answers in the book. :-/

I also have to figure out the opposite of how to find the PERCENT if the shape is known and I have the numbers it falls between.

Any help is great.

Help me understand this:

Someone wrote that the probability of winning the top prize of one million dollars in "Deal Or No Deal" is 1/56.

I don't see why this is so.

I think you either win or fail to win the million dollars right at the beginning of the game.

And, at the beginning of the game, there are 26 cases. So, the probability that you will win 1 million is 1/26.

So, if you decide to play the game to the very end and say NO DEAL to every offer, then you win 1 million dollars. There is no other way to win it.

The fact the you chose 1 million dollars in the beginning is independent of what happens after that. Opening the other cases does not put you at risk of losing the case that you chose. Your case doesn't change.

So, how is the probability of winning 1 million not 1/26?

Remember, the banker will never offer you 1 million. If you have 2 cases left and one is the case with 1 million, the banker may offer you something like 600,000.

I have been taking bupropion SR for quitting smoking for three weeks. two days ago I changed my dosage from 150 to 300mg with my doctor's advice. Last night I experienced pretty bad itching, first in my hands and then all over. I woke up today with milder but present itching. My doctor says I should stay on the drug for another 24-36 hours, but I am afraid that it will get worse. So many people online have reported that it gets worse. Should I drop down to 150, stop altogether or should I follow my doctor's advice and wait and see. Also, is there anything I can take for the itching? HELP :)

I'm curious if I'm doing this problem right, and I have a question at the end of it too.

Time (sec)/ Position (meters)
0s/0.0m
1s/3.1m
2s/6.3m
3s/9.3m
4s/12.2m
5s/15.5m
6s/18.5m

a) It asks me to mark it all on a graph paper which I did, and then asked "What do you notice about the spacing of positions? I put "The spacing stays relativly the 3m for each second. It then asks why. Im not sure what a good answer here would be but I put that I think it is because the object that is in motion is set to go a constant speed. I dont think thats a good answer though, does anyone know something better?

b) I then have to calculate the speed of the object at each intervals, I used average velocity and got:
0-1s: 3.1m/s
1-2s: 3.2m/s
2-3s: 3.0m/s
3-4s: 2.9m/s
4-5s: 3.3m/s
5-6s: 3.0m/s

Do those look correct to everyone?

c) It says to plot a function of time and to draw a best-fit line through the points..how do I draw a best-fit line? It says not to connect the dots

I just finished my last ever Algebra course, yet I have made it almost 30 years without ever needing to know most of the information covered in the class. I got an A in the class, but it has left me wondering...Who uses Algebra and why does everyone need to learn it if not everyone uses it?
