This is a question that I always pondered about.

In the phenomenon of refraction, light bends away from the normal to make up for the increase in speed when it enters a rarer medium. Is this something really fundamental to physical laws.....

.... or is there a reason for light to show "signs of sentience"?

A woman starts traveling in a direction that is 45 degrees north of west for 6 mi. She then turns due west and travels for 4 miles. Finally she travels in a direction that is 30 degrees south of west for 3 mi. Draw a scale diagram of her path on graph paper.

a) Calculate how far north or south she ends up relative to her starting point.

I got 2.74 mi

b) Calculate how far east or west she ends up relative to her starting point.

I got 10.84 mi

c) Calculate how far is she overall from her starting point (straight line distance)

I got 11.18 mi

d) She points back toward her starting point. What direction is she point? (Be clear and exact)

And lastly I got 75.81 degrees east of south

My graph has 3 right triangles, thanks for the help

What would have to be true about any solvent for one of its dilute solutions to have essentially the same molar and molal concentrations?
This question is driving me wild the possible answers are the following. I doubt it has anything to do with the solutes miscibility with water, it's polarity, or it's molar mass being similar to water. Any ideas?

It must be miscible with water.
The volume cannot change appreciably as solute is added.
It cannot be volatile.
The density must be very close to 1 g/mL.
It must be polar.
Its molar mass must be close to the molar mass of water.

(Would prefer a Math professors opinion)

1.Lets say variable x = 0.9999......[meaning its a repeating number]

2.Now lets times both sides by ten.
10x = 9.9999.......

3.Now lets subtract x from both sides.
(10x) - x = (9.9999.......) - x

4. Since x = 0.9999......[repeating]
(10x) - x = (9.9999......) - (0.9999.....)

5.Substract 9.9999..... from 0.9999......
(10x) - x = 9

6. Now substract x from 10x
9x = 9

7. Divide both sides by 9
x = 1

Does this mean 0.9999..... equals 1
I would think that 0.9999..... is a number that is infinitely smaller than 1 by 0.1111.....[repeating] or is there some sort of mathematical phenomenon that I'm unaware of.
