This is a simple proportion problem. If you use 6 cups nuggets/2 cups calcium, then there is 3 times as many nuggets than calcium. Which means he needs 8.5 x 3 cups of nuggets. This equals 25.5.

Set up a proportion:
6 (cups of nuggets)
_________________
2 (cups of calcium
equals
x (unkown cups of nuggets)
________________________
8.5 (cups of calcium)
So basically, you have 6/2 = x/8.5
Now cross-multiply the six to the 8.5 and the 2 to the x:
2x = 51
Then divide out the 2, and you have your answer:
x = 51/2
x = 25.5

*You write the given information in numerical data as a proportion.
(6/n) = (2/8.5)
First: cross multiply...
(6)(8.5) = 2n
2n = (6)(8.5)
Sec: multiply the values...
2n = 51
Third: sovle for "n" by isolating it on one side > divide both sides by 2...
2n/2 = 51/2
n = 25.5
