finding the area of the circle?

1. The center of a soccer field has a diameter of 20 feet. Find the area of the circle. 2. A flowerpot has a circular base with a diameter of 27 centimeters. Find the area of the base of the flowerpot I missed that class, so I have NO clue of how you do this, please also explain how you do this!10 POINTS!

Why do dead bodies float on water but not when people are alive?

It seems that when people are dead their bodies surface on water but when people are alive they go down unless they swim. Why is that?

Teach yourself math from online resources?

I was wondering if there are any online resources for, say, teach yourself online tutorials (free) on subjects such as

1. Complex Numbers
2. Calculus (Both Differentiation and Integration)
3. Further Trigonometry
4. Permutations and Combinations

Basically the topics that get covered in the most advanced mathematics courses in high school, Australia. I'm trying to teach myself 2-3 years advanced(syllabus wise), it's going smoothly so far but they sure do get hard...

Advice: If anyone does need math help (i.e. questions) The Dr Math Forum is sure great!

What would explain a mutation in a strain of bacteria?

The strain has x amount of an enzyme, but a mutant detived from that strain has 1.53 of the enzyme. There is no change in the coding region of the gene. But there is a subtitution of two A-T base pairs in the mutant for two G-C base pairs where polymerase attaches. What would explain how a mutation could produce this change in protein level and what change would occur in mRNA level?

How does the switch on my bike light work?

I have an LED headlight on my bike. If I press the switch once it lights up.
If I press it again, it starts flashing - when I press it again it goes off.

How does that switch work? Does it use transistors in a speciall circuit - or is it something else?
