A little more here...

It was part of an area annexed by the Austo-Hungarian Empire in the years before WWI. It is predominantly Catholic. During the breakup of Yugoslavia in the 90's it had brutal struggle with Serbia (and ethnic Serbs) in particular, but also with Bosnia over the separation and territorial claims. It's a rather mountainous nation, and one of the more oddly shaped countries, for that matter, too.

The capital is Zagreb, it was part of Yugoslavia until that country broke up in the early 1990s. Before that it was occupied by Germany in WWII. Like the other Balkan countries it was part of the Turkish empire for centuries. The language is slavonic, like Russian, Serbian and Polish.
