I am creating bar charts in Matlab, and I would like to put a text label under each bar showing what the bar represents.

I seem to be only able to place numbers under each individual bar.
eg: bar([1 2 3],[# # #]);
This command plots three bars labeled 1, 2 and 3.
Matlab doesn't seem to allow me to put text in the place of 1, 2, 3.

If you could give me a command that would change this it would be most helpful. Thanks.

I live not to far from an estuary thriving with a diversity of wildlife. Unfortunately, possums, raccoons, skunks, and otherwise domesticated dogs and cats are brutally run over by heartless drivers in my area, and no one does a thing about it until the animal is literally flat and levelled to the cement.

If you've studied topology, you may know that SU(2) is the simply connected cover of SO(3). Here's a fun question: What is the map in terms of matrix coefficients? That is, if I give you the coefficients of an SU(2) matrix, produce the coefficients of the corresponding SO(3) matrix.

If after having a spleen removed and still the blood levels continued to drop to around 6, what else could be going on? My husband has been back to theatre and found to have bleed internally after the initial removal, but yet his haemoglobin levels still keep dropping and the docs are pretty satisfied that he isnt still bleeding. I have been told it can take a while for his levels to settle down but hes had nearly 8 pints of blood and still it seems to be getting no better. it rises a little but then drops. I am starting to get worried now. I know i am no doctor but is this normal? How long after a operation would things take to settle down?
Serious answers only please.

Due to various time constraints, I need to graduate from my B.S. program one semester earlier, which required a reshuffling of my courses. I convinced the department to allow me to take a molecular biology course, out of sequence. The normal prerequisites are cell biology and the first course of the biochemistry sequence.

I will be taking cell bio concurrently, but biochem will not happen until next fall. Is this doable? I've taken mostly lower to intermediate level biology courses so far and have done well, but I can't help being worried about this one. Could you recommend a way to prepare for this course, considering that I haven't taken biochem?

If someone were to be immunosuppressed (after a organ transplant) and had to have the spleen removed, what would the impact be on the persons life? As in, would it be worse in the long term, would it make the person a higher risk even more.
Are there any long term complications?
Serious answers only please.

Since there are some experienced math guys about, here's a fun question: Prove that every map f: S^2--->RP^2 is contractible (without just quoting a theorem).
