I think it is 4,096 cells...I had a logic problem like this once...check for me!

In 5 minutes, there would be 2 (=2^1). In 10 minutes, the 2 split into 2, leaving 4 (=2^2). In 15 minutes, the 4 split into 2, leaving 8 (=2^3), etc...

Thus, if you let each set of 5 minutes be a group (call it n), there are n=12 groups in 1 hour. So there are 2^n cells after 1 hour (2^12 cells)

beginning: 1 cell = 2^0 (you did not specify # at beginning)
5 min: 2 cells = 2^1
10 min: 4 cells = 2^2
15 min: 8 cells = 2^3
20 min: 16 cells = 2^4
25 min: 32 cells = 2^5
30 min: 64 cells = 2^6
35 min: 128 cells = 2^7
40 min: 256 cells = 2^8
45 min: 512 cells = 2^9
50 min: 1024 cells = 2^10
55 min: 2048 cells = 2^11
60 min: 4096 cells = 2^12

After 60 minutes you need to have 4086 cells, loopy isn't it? each 5 minutes a cellular divides, assuming your commencing with one cellular, 5 minutes=2 cells then the two cells will divide so: 10 minutes=4 cells and then those 4 divide and so forth.

in an hour there are 12 five-minute span. thus the cell division will take place 12 times

so the number of cells would be

cell division serial ---- no of total cell
1 ----- 2
2 -----4
3 -----8
4 -----16
5 -----32
6 -----64
7 -----128
8 ----- 256
9 ----- 512
10 ----- 1,024
11 ----- 2,048
12 ----- 4,096

so there will be 4,096 cells after 1 hour

This is actually a geometric progression with first term (a) 2, common factor (r) 2

Just take 1 and double it 12 times.. If I counted right it is 4096

1*2 = 2 *2 = 4 * 2 = 8...etc

C = 1(2)^12
C = 4096

After 1 hour there will be 4096 cells.
