I live not to far from an estuary thriving with a diversity of wildlife. Unfortunately, possums, raccoons, skunks, and otherwise domesticated dogs and cats are brutally run over by heartless drivers in my area, and no one does a thing about it until the animal is literally flat and levelled to the cement.

I felt sad myself when I saw animals laying on ditches struck by cars unintentionally or otherwise. I myself had had some experienced. When I'm driving on the highway at night I go slower than the speed limit and even then It's hard to tell if that two little tiny eyes on the road sprint to the other side or not. Also you don't want to turn the wheel abruptly to avoid them, so the choice is to struck them or you end up on the ditch yourself. And many times when the choice was made the event happened already.

Roadkills my friend are accidental events that were hard to avoid. The things you can do maybe is post some warning signs or ask your local government to build some crossing tunnels for these critters to pass the road safely.

You obviously don't drive much.99.9999% of the drivers who have collided with the animals did not mean to have it happen. It is called an accident. And it is USUALLY caused by the wildlife(and stray domestics) running in front of the vehicle. The reason it is flattened is because it has been run over multiple times by many cars/trucks in a few hours. But you are right I think we should ban all vehicular traffic, and throw those drivers in jail forever.NOT!
I hope you know how to grow your own food, make clothes out of leaves or grasses, cause your grocery store will be empty real quick if we did. I suspect you are against hunting from this question.
I have a question for you, what about the pain you Vegan's cause the poor plants by pulling them out by the roots or by their leaves and cutting them up into pieces. If I had the money I would start a PAC called PETV(people for the ethical treatment of VEGETABLES). Then we could all starve, animals from overpopulation, and US from nothing to eat.

Because most if not all road kills are on accident. If the people are driving the speed limit, than they are not in the wrong; they probably can't stop in time to save the animal. There is only one thing that I can think of to stop those driving over the speed limit is to arrest them. Maybe lowering the speed limit down would help make less road kills. If it is low enough around the place(s) that have the most road kills, than it would be hard for anyone to hit the animal, even if they are going the speed limit.

I think it stinks also (I had a beloved dog get hit and killed by a car when I was a teenager), but it is generally an accident. A driver does not always have the time to stop or avoid hitting an animal, especially if there is traffic.

Animal cruelty is a deliberate act, and the person that commits it should be strung up and treated the same way they treat the animal.

as far as the wildlife animals go, most of their natural predators have been driven off, so theres an abundance. something has to happen. as far as domesticated animals go, their owners need to be a little more responsible the amount of stray dogs and cats is alarming.. i worked for a humane society for a while, and you would not believe the amount of puppies and kittens that were dropped off daily. i know how you feel tho, some drivers would hit a person if they were going to make them late for work. we dont need anymore laws tho. theres too many allready. a little more humanitarianism would work.

well, yes that is a problem

but, people swerve into other cars or telephone poles avoiding animals, and hurt more people

there should be a unit of people to remove roadkill.

there are strict laws against roadkills in India and Pakistan

No one hits anything on purpouse. It smells, it dents the car, and its just generaly messy. And all those poor animals need to not be in the road. If its cat and dogs then there owners need to leash them or they deserve to be road kill. Most street animals know better or dont live long. The wild life will be here long after were gone. The smart ones get the message of when to cross the road.

i agree paradis! what people don't understand is that you can change your driving style and just slow the F@#k down while you're driving at night, most animals are nocturnal and have to feed at the sides of roads cos there is drainage and food. i cant for the life of me think where it is ( not Australia )but i know that somewhere it is illegal to road kill a species of penguin, they have full right of way and massive fines are imposed on people.

because if there was a law against it, almost everyone would have a fine or something, people just dont go out looking to run over animals. they are mostly all accidents
