Can I take 250 mg. amoxicillin without hurting my unborn child. I am 6 months pregnant?

Amoxicillin is classified as a 'B' teratogenic agent indicating that it is safe to use during pregnancy. Infections during pregnancy can be harmful to the fetus and antibiotics are a must when the mother becomes afflicted. Most doctors are very mindful when prescribing antibiotics to pregnant women but you're right to be concerned.

Amoxicillin is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is unlikely to harm an unborn baby. Amoxicillin is generally considered to be safe for use during pregnancy. Do not, however, take amoxicillin without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant.

amoxicillin is definitely category A in pregnancy and not category B as stated above. Therefore it is safe. ( The previous people who answered category B probably mistaken amoxcillin with clauvanic acid which is category B ).

Penicillin does not harm the fetus, but only take what you absolutely need and not for a virus infection.

dont do it unless your dr. says you can!! call your local hospital & have your dr. paged, or the dr. on call, & ask them if its ok.
