.....and is it possible that his "mistake" wasn't quite so big after all.

He liked the idea of a static universe, so introduced the cosmological constant to ensure this - but maybe dark matter in some way does prevent the universe from expanding "forever".

If this sounds like an amateur asking nonsensical questions, you are absolutely correct. But I'm an interested amateur.

Old one was playing up and making strange noises, so bought a new one. Would be boring just to take the old one one to the local refuse dump, so I want to send it off in style!! Has to be household items tho, no exotic stuff.

Let x = 1.
Therefore,
x^5 = 1

Transpose
x^5 - 1 = 0

Factor
(x - 1)(x^4 + x³ + x² + x + 1) = 0

Divide by x - 1
x^4 + x³ + x² + x + 1 = 0

Now, since x = 1 (from above)
1^4 + 1³ + 1² + 1 + 1 = 0

Therefore,
1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 0

therefore,
5 = 0

What happened?
^_^

...easy...

My friend went on this hiking adeventure in Yosimite National Park, and his tour guide got them lost. Well they were stranded, and the guide got the group sick by recomending they eat what the guide thought were creminie mushrooms. However I told him we are suing him because I know that wild mushrooms are the last thing you depend upon for survival because even experts have a hard determing what they are eating. Can someone help me as too what mushroom is the Yosimite area may grow that resemble creminies so we can win this case? I am sure there may be a lot, but some direction would be a great start. My friend is lucky he didn't die this whole situation has me fuming.

Before you tell me about how all Radio,TV, satellite transmissions/signals are unwittingly sent (leaked) to space as well, let me clarify my question. ... What I am asking is: Can you "legally" transmit signals to deep space without them being meant to be picked up on Earth by a receiver (i.e. a TV, a radio, a satellite, etc.)? Or is there a law against a one-way transmission to space? ... Also, do you need an FCC license of sorts to transmit signals to deep space? Serious answers only please. In other words, kindly refrain from cute, "ET call home" commentaries :-)

My science teacher once taught us that we could use our radius bone's length to determine our height. It's a very simple formula, yet I cannot seen to remember it. Your radius bone is the bone that is the outer bone of the two bones in your front part of arm.

If you have any idea, please tell me. The best answer will earn you 10 points!!

This Sunday, Dec. 09, 2006, Mars, Jupiter, and Mercury will be together in the sky as far as your thumb in the view.

Three planets haven't been that close since 1925, said Miami Space Transit Planetarium director Jack Horkheimer.

And it won't happen again until 2053, he said.

magnesium reacts with carbon dioxide to produce magnesium oxide and carbon. How much carbon dioxide is required to react with 6g magnesium?

I tried it and got this:

2Mg + CO2 --> 2MgO + C

48g 44g 80g 12g

then i divided 48 by 6 and got 8 so i then divided the 44g of CO2 by 8 and got my answer to 5.5g of CO2 required.

I don't think it's right though cos it seemed to straight forward to just divide it all. Could someone give me some help if its totally wrong?

Thanks guys
