the number 1 reason is global warming. polar icecaps are melting thus increasing the sea levels compared with sea levels 50 years ago. with the melting of the polar icecaps, air currents over the continents and oceans has also changed giving rise to unusual climatic conditions including el nino/la nina, numerous typhoons & hurricanes.
