I keep hearing about how They proved a knot can't exist in more then 3 dimensions, or how the ricci flow was proved in the fourth and fifth dimensions, etc. But we have no direct evidence that these extra demensions exist, save that of time, or if they did how they would fit. So how can mathematicians prove laws in theoretical worlds?

This question has 3 parts to it, here is the information for the questions:

The inventor of a new product believes that the cost of producing the product is given by the function C(x) = 1.75x + 7000. If the inventor charges $4 per unit, then her profit for producing and selling x units is given by the function P(x) = 2.25x – 7000

a) What is her profit if she sells 2000 units?
I already did this one and got -$2,500

b) What is her profit if she sells 5000 units?
I did this one as well and got $4,250

c) What is the break-even point for sales stated in the number of units?
This is the one I'm having troubles with. What is a break-even point.. and how do I find it in this scenario?

Thanks in advance.

I walked into a hundred or so year old church the other day, and beside from being beautiful on all accounts, i saw series of pipes displayed all around the church, in the tops of the walls to the left and right of the main seating area, in walls of seperate sections, and most surprisignly the mean organ device appeared to be all the way opposite these pipes over the entrance door, where another plethora of pipes were placed. This raised many questions: First, how does an organ work, Second, most of the pipes looked the same height, how do they play different notes, Third, the pipes seemed to run through solid rock columns and walls, how had they not been crushed and put out of tune by pressure, and Fourth, if one of the pipes did break, how could you possibly service or repair that if it exists within those hard and mastercrafted walls.

i have often times wondered, what lies beyond our planet, this floating speck, what lies far, far away, is there an edge of the universe? WHat is the universe inside of? Is there a point to anything? What is the arcane truth behind all this exisence? Please, someone answer me. It may be with philosophy...it may be with science...i dont care. Will we ever find out?

I graphed a lot of power functions on my calculator, from X^.01 to X^2.3 to X^5, etc., and it seems between 0 and 1, where no matter what the two points are always the same, there is a bend that determines the the shape of the curve. This bend seems very defined, and it seems it must be important mathematically. I know that maximum and minimum are determined by first deriviative, and inflection points by second, is this bend point determined by third derivative. IF not, is there a way to find the exact point where the bend is the most pronounced?

The hiker weighs 1040 N, and accelerates across the ice at 1.35 m/s2. What is the magnitude of the tension in the rope? (Ignore the mass of the rope.)
