A Masters will make you your most marketable. Doing your research in petroleum would give you better odds with a petroleum company.

While you are doing this, see if any of the companies you are interested in offer internships. Some are paid, some are not, but you will get an "in" with the company. Also look at the industry service companies. Geophysical companies, environmental companies, etc. are good opportunities.

I worked 15 years in the oil, gas, and coal industry doing exploration and development. I now do geologic research for a government agency.

A Masters is the best way to go, though not a guarantee, but it will also help you "keep" your job as jobs in the industry are hot right now, but can cool very quickly. when I worked, the pay was great. But, I was laid off several times before going into research.

Still geology is a great field. I have made a wonderful career out of it, including a number of publications.

Good luck.

Edit 1 - Thank you to the responder below mine for your kind comments. BUT, I absolutely must add this, since you are still in school. Take as many GIS courses as you can. Digital geography/geology are an absolute must. 3-D geology is moving at an astounding pace and GIS is its base of understanding. GIS proficiency will help you tremendously.

Yeah, once you have your M.S., you will siting pretty for oil jobs. While you wait, this is currently a very good time for geology jobs. You could easily get a environmental, mining, or geotech job right now and work while you get our degree.

As a supplement to Tom's amazing post, the Bureau of Land Management is also always hiring geologists.
