Smooth muscle is controlled by alpha 1 receptors! Remember though that some smooth muscle is also controlled by beta 2 receptors, it depends on where the smooth muscle is located.

Think of it logically, alpha receptors are adrenergic, meaning they respond to sympathetics, so what organs would we WANT to reduce bloodflow to? Well during fight or flight, we would want to reduce bloodflow to skin and GI so we can divert it to skeletal muscle. This is the smooth muscle that contains alpha 1 receptors, because when this smooth muscle is stimulated, the arterioles here are vasoconstricted, and less blood is sent to the skin and GI.

Above is correct, but alpha 1 action in not specific to vascular smooth muscle cells. It also acts upon adipose tissue.
