how would i go about solving this problem?

Suppose that X and Y are random variables with joint density:
fX;Y (x; y) = 1 such that -y < x < y, where y lies in the set (0,1)
0 elsewhere
.
Show that Cov (X; Y ) = 0, but X and Y are not independent.

please could you show me this step by step? Thanks

a 1500 kg car traveling east at 25 m/s and a 3000kg minivan traveling south at 16.7 m/s collide at a perpendicular intersection. Assuming that the collision is completetely inelastic, what is the velocity of the vehicles immediately after collsion? (answer is 13.9 m/s at 53.1 degress south of east) how do you do this?

i have this already
(1500kg)(25 m/s) + (3000kg)(16.7m/s)= Vab(4500kg)
Vab= 19.5 m/s
what's next?

1. Look at the circuit illustrated in Figure A-1. Assume that the values of R1 and R2 are equal. If you connect your meter's test probes to points A and B in the circuit, which of the following voltages would you measure?
A. 9 V
B. 6 V
C. 3 V
D. 0 V

2. In the circuit shown in Figure A-1, where would you connect your meter's test probes to measure the full battery voltage?
A. To points D and E, or to points B and E
B. To points A and C only
C. To points D and E, or to points A and C
D. To points B and E only

3. In the circuit shown in Figure A-1, suppose that the value of R1 is 100 kW and the value of R2 is 470 kW. At which of the following locations in the circuit would you measure the highest voltage with your meter?
A. Between points A and C
B. Between points A and B
C. Between points B and C

The owner of a carousel wants to paint the surface of its floor. The paint is very expensive, so he only wants to buy the exact amount needed. He sends his younger son to measure the the surface area of the carrousel. When the son gets there, he realizes that he cannot measure the exact diameter, because all of the machinery is in the middle of the hole. So, he takes a measurement and leaves. When he arrives home, he tells his father that he measured 70 feet from one outer edge to the the other side, and the tape measure touched the opening in the center.

His father was furious! How could he be so incompetent?! But his older son soon spoke up: "I know the area of the floor of the carrousel." His father was amazed.

What is the area of the floor of the carrousel? There is enough information to solve this problem. Here's a picture of the solution:
