We're all doomed. Well, maybe not us but our great-grandchildren are if we don't make more of an effort to conserve energy and use renewable forms of it.
The report on global warming by economist Sir Nicholas Stern warns that if no action is taken floods from rising sea levels could displace up to 100 million people, melting glaciers could cause water shortages for 1 in 6 of the world's population, wildlife will be harmed; at worst up to 40% of species could become extinct and droughts may create tens or even hundreds of millions of 'climate refugees.' In short, global disaster. Potentially.
We're already witnessing hotter summers and milder winters. As rainfall patterns change, droughts and flooding are becoming more common. But making energy efficient measures in our homes now will give us a chance of making a difference. And cut our bills.
Global meltdown aside, the soaring costs of gas and electricity - in some cases rising by more than 90% since 2003!
