Every mammal plays with other members of its group to keep in shape and to learn survival skills. Why don't we see this behavior in other animals?

Mammals aren't the only animals that play, I read an article in national geographic about it. It mentioned a crow and penguins playing (with pictures). Try reading a book or a magazine every once in a while. Besides, doesn't it seem a bit pompous to assume that mammals are the only ones who play just cause you've never seen it? Look it up in an old national geographic, its the one with the baby snow monkey on the cover with a snow ball, i think it was titled "Animals at play"

Birds definitely play, just think of parrots! I am wondering about the fish. Do sharks play with their food like killer whales do?
Mammals certainly seem to play more.

We had a fish that exhibited playful behavior.
It was a Siamese fighting fish.
When we came close to the fish bowl, it would get all happy and excited and move around like a little puppy dog! We were gone on a trip for a few days and gave our fish extra food. When we came back, as soon as it saw us coming it acted like a puppy would act when it's happy to see you! When we were in the pet store, it responded this way to us. That's why we chose this particular fish.

Most answers would be cats or dogs, tugging on a toy would seem like they're playing, but they're trying to show their dominance. The animal that spends the most time actually playing is the otter.

Some non-mammalian species play. I guess you just haven't been paying attention. Several of the highly intelligent birds play with not only each other, but with other species. Crows, ravens, and magpies play. I've seen crows and magpies play with, tease, and play tricks on dogs (wild birds, not pets, mind you). Parrots of many varieties play.
