First of all, osmosis is the movement of WATER ONLY! Diffusion is the movement of any other substance. If there are two solutions separated by a semi-permeable membrane, then water from the side of lower solute concentration will move to the side of higher solute concentration. The walls of a capillary are a semi-permeable membranes, so the same thing will happen in a capillary

First let's begin with the concept of osmosis, it is simply the movement of a liquid of lesser density into an area of greater density. A semi-permeable membrane is one with microscopic pores that allow this movement. The heavier or denser liquid moves very slowly across the barrier, but the liquid of lower density can penetrate faster. If a tube of distilled water colored with Phenolphthalein(an indicator solution) it will be colorless if the water is acidified, and if the beaker in which the membrane covered tube in suspended is alkalized...the alkalized water will change color to a red or pink as the solution slowly filters down through the membrane causing the color change. Capillaries are also semi-permeable membranes in that they allow the movement of oxygen and carbon dioxide to enter the blood stream. The larger erythrocytes are simply to big to squeeze through but the gas exchange take place. When a person is bruised (has ecchymosis), the injury has ruptured some of the capillaries and blood has accumulated with in the skin (extravasation) If you think of a screen window, air can pass freely through the screen (the movement is osmosis...the screen is a semi-permeable membrane) The air represents the less dense or small molecular sizes and a fly would represent the heavier molecules or blood cells.

not sure exactlly, perhaps, because..< educated guess> the skin is the largest organ in the body... they harbour cappillarry .. in the hands and head and all over.> Anyways, they can regrow new cells, and self heal.. if you will, as osmosis allows a cell to become stronger and more adaptable, changing form, or, Am I right?
