The decimal number above consist of only 1's and 0's to the right of the decimal point . The first 1 is followed by one 0, the second 1 is followed two 0's, the third 1 is followed by three 0's, and so on. What is teh total number of 0's between the 98th and the 101st 1 in this decimal nuber?

I'll appreciate an explanation on how to solve it. Thanks a lot!!

If you converting from cubic inches to cubic meters. Do you charge the answer you got for cubic inches into cubic meters? or Do you have to actually charge all the data you used to calalulate inches into meters. Then calaluated into cubic meters?

This is problem one on my worksheet, and all the rest I've found to be easy, so I'm thinking I'm missing something here:

A vertical cylinder fitted with a frictionless piston contains air at 100C The piston has an unknown m and a diameter of .150mm, and the ambient pressure outside the cylinder is 101kPa. If the cylinder volume is 500 liters and the mass of the air is 5kg, what is the piston mass, m?

I calculated the pressure inside the cylinder and it is huge. That means the piston would accelerate upwards. Since the sum of the forces on the piston must equal its mass times acceleration, I used something like (AFTER i had obtained the inner pressure):

p(sys)*a(piston) - p(ambient)*a(piston) - mass(piston)*gravity = mass(piston)*acceleration(piston)

The trouble is, is that i know neither the acceleration or the mass of the piston.

on a predetermined path determined by the geometry of a super sized extra dimension or dimensions? if our universe could be seen as a ripple in this dimension, what would come before and after this ripple? this question was motivated by the depletion in our supply of munchies and someone's anal desire for neatness and order. so don't get too pedantic and hot, just speculate.

I try to keep an open mind with the evolution issue, and there's some fascinating stuff to it. But when we are talking about one skull from a supposed 3.2 million years ago, isn't is, I dunno, a little unsafe for the scientists to just openly state "...she is the origin of mankind"?

I mean, we're talking about a really old skull, that might be a human descendent.... or might just be a monkey's skull. Isn't there a LOT of theorizing and guesswork here, a lot of which could be very wrong? (considering the huge gap in time?)

I'm just not sold, but I'm not weighing in one way or the other. Reading this article, and isn't it somewhat dangerous to just accept that "this is how it happened" and not just leave it in the realm of conjecture? (e.g. "what if...")?

As I understand it (and I am not an expert by any means) the equator is a hypothetical line that separates the north and southern hemispheres.

My question is how 'wide' is the equator and therefore does the area included within this band constitute the north or south?

Just curious an when I was in Africa last year we supposedly 'crossed' the equator.
