I believe that before and after the ripple is simply a void. Such as the one in your stomach due to lack of munchies. These voids are only momentarily filled as the ripple passes through. The ripple then being the food.
Therefore, this universe you describe is a model of the digestive system. Food comes in and out of the stomach in the same manner as the ripple passing through the void.

There is also "C" - the amount of mass in the universe is just enough to (almost) stop the expansion, but still too small to reverse it (this is called "critical mass") - so the Universe continues expanding forever, but slows down with time, and never exceedes a certain limit, continuing to exist in this state indefinitely.
Most cosmologists currently agree that the amount of matter in the universe is really very close to the critical mass (that is why the question of the outcome is still open), but nobody is brave enough to state, that it is exactly equal.
I personally believe that it is - it just would be a pretty damn big conincedence if it just so happened to be so close, that noone can tell the difference, but still not equal. There must be some global law, not yet known to us, governing the "universe-genesis", that made the amount of matter produce by the Big Bang "just enough".
As for the original question ... I think the "high-dimension ripple" is a pretty good illustration to the notion of the space-time continuum.

IF I were you, I wouldn't look so much and what's beyond our dimension, and focus on what's here at home.
There are two possibilities for the outcome of the Universe.
Outcome A- Due to the enourmous gravity of all of the mass inside the universe, it stops expanding and starts to decrease in size. All the matter eventually gets pulled to one point, everything implodes, and the Universe as we know it starts again from scratch.
Outcome B- Due to the speed that the Universe expands, the gravity is not strong enough to stop the expansion, and the Universe keeps on expanding until all of the matter in it is so thinly spread that you cannot see a star in the sky. After this eventuality, the Universe will not start again.
The real question is; which will it be? Option A or Option B?

hi, you should look into 'the final theory' it bases the universe around a new theory, where everything is explained, around a constant expansion of all matter, eg, the eart doubles in size every second, its a extremely plausible alternate science, and really explains teslas work much better than all this big bang stuff

Hi. In your scenario, the ripple represents "now", before us lies the "future" and what we leave behind is the "past". Your munchies lie in the past, the next bag of Frito's lies in the future. That urge to burp is now.

area is increasing between products which aren't any further gravitationally sure to at least one yet another. All stars in a galaxy are gravitationally sure to all of the different stars in that galaxy. Galaxies are not any further increasing. image voltaic structures are not any further increasing. Even some galaxies (such as the Milky way and Andromeda) are gravitationally sure to at least one yet another and are growing nearer. .

Well, it would put a big hole in the global warming theory. If we are moving away from the sun then we will be going into a ice age. Both theories can't be right.

According to eminent scientists Bondi and Gold( A theory in theoretical physics that is now being re acclaimed as correct), the Universe is not expanding so you've got no bothers.
