I live in Central Indiana and my son found this huge caterpillar yesterday. It's 5 inches long and an inch thick, and it's mainly dark brown in color. It has a light pink face and strange similar colored back end. It also has some hair, but not really thick, and also four orange spines (might sting) towards the face and one in the middle towards the back. We really want to keep him and see what he turns into but I can't find out what he is. Serious answers only please. Thanks!

If i make a magnet say which is 1 meter long and has a square cross section of 1 sq.cm. It will of course have north-south.

1. If we bend this magnet such that it becomes a circle (like a ring) how will this behave?

2. if we have two such ring magnet, will they repel or attract each other when placed side by side?

3. will these two ring magnets repel or attract when place one above another?

4. can we have a magnet in the form of a sphere?

I find this interesting. I always thought we yawned to get more oxygen to the brain. Do you agree that it is to let others know we are tired so that we all sleep at the same time and get up at the same time? This may be for safety reasons back when we lived in the wild?

Hi Bill,
Why do we yawn? And why does it seem contagious?
--Sleepy Ruminator

Dear Sleepy Ruminator,
Of course, yawning seems to be a very old form of behavior. It seems to be programmed deep in our brains. I've seen dogs yawn, and it makes me want to yawn right along with 'em. When your best canine friend is opening his jaws wide and shaking his shoulders, you can bet that he's not anxious to go outside and play or go for a long old walk. Modern wild dogs in Africa live in packs. They seldom stray off on their own. A yawn is a dog's way of telling her buddies in the dog pack (or you as her keeper) that she's ready for some doggie z's.

1. A student studied the clock reaction described in this experiment. She set up this reaction mixture: 6I-(aq)+BrO3-(aq)+6H+(aq)=(it means reaction)3I2(aq+Br-(aq)+3H2O, by mixing 20 mL 0.010 M KI, 10 mL .001M Na2S2O3, 10 mL 0.040M KBrO3,and 10 mL 0.10 M HCl. It took about 45 seconds for the color to turn blue.
a.She found the concentration of each reaction in the reacting mixture by realizing that the number of moles of each reactant did not change when that reactant was mixed with the others, but that its concentration did. For any reactant A, no,moles A=Ma stock*Vstock=Mamixture*Vmixture
The volume of the mixture was 50 mL. Revising the above equation, she obtained Mamixture=Ma stock *(V stock mL)/50 mL. find the concentration of each reactant by using the above equation:
(I-) ? BrO3- ? H+ ?
b. what was the relative rate of the reaction?(1000/t)

A man drops a baseball from the edge of a roof on a building. At exactly the same time, another man throws a baseball vertically up toward the man on the roof in such a way that the ball just barely reaches the roof. Does the ball from the roof reach the ground before the ball from the ground reaches the roof, or is it the other way around?

According to the quantum theory, when we don't look at the moon all that exists is a probability density. When we make an observation we force the universe to take a stand and the moon pops into existance. So is it really there when we don't observe it? Einstein once asked a quantum physicist if they really believed that the moon wasn't there when nobody was looking. What do you think? Notice that this is just a modern day physics version of the "If a tree falls in the woods and nobody's around to hear it does it make a sound?" question. This question is closely related to an old philosophical question that asks whether or not our mind's perception of the universe is accurate. When we percieve a tree do we actually observe the tree as it really is? or is what we call a tree just our mind's take on a tree based on sensory information?
