How have we come to valuing someone based on $$$ rather than substance of character?

Is this possibly why resentment in other countries of the world exists toward countries like the U.S.?? The leaders of the poorer countries feel disrespected?

As bad as homelessness and people begging in the streets for handouts is now in urban areas, can you imagine how bad it would be without welfare programs?

I understand there are people who abuse the system, but that's what Social workers are employeed to investigate and end.

Most people on welfare of some type are living very modest and meager existances in the way of material needs!

Not everyone for a multitude of reasons is capable of self sustainment.

There is a category of people who live in working poor conditions!

Outsourcing has caused much of this!

There are millions of Americans just getting by living paycheck to paycheck.

And what about the war veterans who haven't been able to overcome the problems inflicted on them from atrocities they saw in combat?

I think it's important for our infrastructure to help those who need it!

When the state provides all your needs, why should you look for a job?

When will we come to realize that the “benevolent paternalism” of a generous government does more harm than good?

Decades of welfare-state coddling have created a permanent American underclass feeding at the government teet and voting for democrats to give them more goodies.

I mostly base this on the Republican party, George W. Bush , and the documentary 'Jesus Camp'. I mean, it could'nt hurt. I don't think that this Atheist president would focus on changing the country religion to Atheism, I just think with all topics: schools, taxes, abortion, health care...he would have a clean slate about all the issues.I dunno...Makes sense to me.

The bottom 50%? They pay a paltry 3.97% of all income taxes. Are they paying their FAIR share?

"FAIR" there is that word again. Liberals can not seem to talk for more than two minutes without the word fair popping up. Apparently Liberals really want everything to be fair. But their version of what is and is not fair seems to be a bit skewed to many people.

Certainly fairness in taxation amounts to soaking the taxpayer depending on how much they earn. Liberals oppose all tax codes, which would truly be fair. Flat taxes, where everyone pays the same rate? Liberals do not like those. Consumption taxes, where again everyone is taxed in a balanced fashion? Liberals dislike that system as well.

In fact, the only "fair" tax code to liberals appears to be one which punishes success, and takes way too much of Americans hard earned money and places it in the hands of government.

Asian American, African-American, Jewish-American, This-American, That-American. Good grief why are these stupid labels necessary? And how are they supposed to bring us together when all they do is focus on our outer differences?

Liberals also oppose racism, sexism, thisism, thatism, and every ism ever known to man. Yet they fully support affirmative action, which awards people for being of a certain color, or gender, while penalizing members of other races or genders. Why is this?

...how exactly can any of you say your lives had changed since 9/11?? Assuming you didn't have a loved one affected by that day.
Personally, i think that statement is a complete crock designed to undermine anything we can do about it for left wing political purposes.

1) The NSA was created to detect / monitor foreign threats to the US.
2) The Bill of Rights protects US citizens and legal residents, thus it is not relevant to the NSA's spying on foreigners abroad. If Congress funds the operation, the NSA can legally spy on foreigners at will without a warrant.
3) A Cold War tactic of the Soviets was to infiltrate the US. In response to this the NSA's attention was drawn inside, and to, our borders.
4) FISA was enacted in 1978 to limit the NSA's activities with respect to cross-border and US-internal electronic surveillance.
5) FISA is a limiting statute - if it doesn't apply to an NSA activity not covered by another law, the activity is legal.
6) FISA contains a definitions section limiting its application to specific, enumerated circumstances.
7) If the NSA targets a foreigner, and monitors, using a satellite in orbit, that foreigner's calls into and from the US, this does not fit any of those circumstances, thus FISA does not apply.

I'm sorry, I just came across a supposed ConRepub Expert in economics and he claims the "poor are not required to pay taxes",

I just want to know, since most of the country is catagorized as being at lower middle class and below (most are considered poor by American standards).

Why They would think that the majority working poor and working class don't pay taxes?

Do some people really think that corruption will out itself?

When Nixon was caught up in Watergate the White House protocol was to deny deny deny!

Every administration needs to be held accountable for their actions!!

There is a difference between what officials say and what they actually do!!

It is our responsibility to call them on it when this occurs!!

We have a checks and balances system for a reason!

Aren't you tired of people who are trying to tell the citizens what's really going on being called Anti-American or UnPatriotic!!??

I think they are brave heros who show Patriotism for the country and it's citizens above any particular political party!!
