While the courts have generally protected our individual freedoms, the American people tend to support the restriction of these rights in practice. What reasons do you believe account for this fundamental difference of view?

Honest people are afraid. They do not have the resources and financial power to contest the elections. They are threatened, maimed and even killed. The police is hand-in-hands with mafias and dons. We are forced to vote and elect only from the corrupt politicians.

Please understand, I have no agenda with this question, I am not trying to start a fight or prove a point.

I have noticed a trend that people cannot seem to identify with their chosen political party without having to resort to the "well at least I'm better than the sissy scum-sucking Dems/evil oppressive Pubs" tactic.

I am interested in hearing from people that can understand and identify with both sides of the issues, that DON'T think the "other side" is evil incarnate, but have chosen a side anyways, and why. For example, I am interested in learning:

-Why you have chosen to identify with a particular political party (WITHOUT resorting to bashing of the alternative)
-Are there any issues you are "on the fence" about, or that you outright disagree with the stance your party has chosen?
-Do you think the leaders in your particular party are furthering that party's ideals, or are they furthering their own agenda first and foremost?

Thoughtful answers only, PLEASE

I currently asked a question about passports but I want to ask this as well because I am looking at the form to recieve one for the first time. I am reading that I have to show proof of identity and it says driver's license. I do not have a drivers license but a learner's permit which I figured would be ok since it shows my signature and picture but this form says no. When I checked on the site (www.travel.state.gov) it said driver's license but then also said state, federal id, which should include a learners permit because that is state. Can anyone help me figure this out? Is a learners permit just as good as a driver's license in this case?

I doubt any Christian would like to see their constitution, government, schools, laws, etc. overtaken by, say, Hindu beliefs. Why then is it okay to push for our country to be guided by any religious beliefs? Is it not ideal for us to practice our own faith, worship and beliefs in our own homes and churches?

I wouldn't, the transmission would be full of sawdust, the odomater would be turned back, every little trick to sell you a lemon would be done. But I think that is what he should do after he is impeached, become a used car salesman. Just about all he is good for.

This is really a question you have to ask yourself. The official story behind the 9/11 attacks is that fire caused the collapse of both World Trade Center towers. However, the FDNY used thermal equipment that day to gauge the temperature of the fires in the WTC. The highest temperature recorded was around 1700 degrees farenheit. Steel melts at 3000 degrees farenheit, and both towers were constructed with a giant steel column running through the middle of the buildings, with smaller steel columns arrayed around the middle column. Jetfuel from the planes burns at a maximum of 2000 degrees (F). How then, did fire destroy those buildings? I would love for someone to explain it to me, because it is scientifically impossible. Add to that the reports from many people, including fire fighters, who were there that day, who said they heard bombs going off.

For all who do not know the Big Box issue is what the City Council of Chicago is trying to pass for big corporations such as Wal-Mart to pay their employees $13/hour. When the council voted this in a couple weeks ago Wal-Mart backed out of Chicago and said they will focus on subarbs. DO you think that Chicago has gone too far and that they can use the jobs no matter what the pay is?
