Agnostic or not, he is also an astute political operative who realizes that the "religious right" is a bloc of voters who can be counted on to go to the polls and vote for the candidate that speaks to their moral and religious issues, needs and concerns.

By tailoring the Republican message to them, he's ensuring Republican candidates of a huge support base from this group

Because religeous zealots are easily brainwashed much like NRA types. They both are cabable of becoming emotional over a issue to the point of violence even. Once you get someone like that convinced that "you" are their savior and mentor and you alone fight for there freedom and rights they are like putty...The relig right is a block of votes the president needs to suurvive..most of the religeous right is insane and ready to be led.

Because he is a person without any morals at all he would sleep with satan if it would get him votes. The religious right likes him because they swallow the lies he spews out all the time that addresses their belief system.
