Tax sales are conducted by counties after proper notification to the owners of the land who have failed to pay real estate taxes. If you contact your County Treasurer, he or she will provide you with the date each year that notifications of tax sales are published and inform you of where the listing are published. In most areas, publication is in a large daily newspaper, in other places they may appear in a legal publication or even online. The County Treasurer probably has a handout with all the details about bidding on tax delinquent property. Also ask about scavenger sales. Those are for property on which there are delinquent taxes but for which nobody has made a bid at auction. Sometimes, there are some excellent bargains there for vacant land.
