Government - December 2007

[Selected]: All categories Politics & Government Government

I have a test in American Govt tomorrow. I was absent for the review today (had a doctors appt). But anyway, on our study guide it tells us this:

Are the following questions a DELEGATED POWER of the national government? If so, is it an ENUMERATED or IMPLIED power? Or, is it a CONCURRENT power held by both the states and national government or a power RESEVERED to the states?

1. Power to regulate communications industry

2. Power to issue Money

3. Power to establish hospitals

4. Power to regulate airlines

5. Power to tax personal income

10 pts to the best answer. I tried to answer these myself but am really lost. I wanted to stay there for the review today (where my class went over the answers) but yeah... I need help.

Thanks :)

The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money.
A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
but one advertising agency did a good job of
putting that figure into some perspective in
one of its releases.

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New Orleans It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division . .

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number, what does it mean?

A. Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman, child), you each get $516,528.

B. Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

C. Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,066,012.

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?
Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago,
and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened? Can you spell 'politicians!'

And I still have to 'press
1' for English.

What the heck happened?????

SKIATOOK, Okla. - Huddled near her fireplace, Marla Carter wondered when Skiatook will be mentioned in news reports about the storm-related power outages that have left her without electricity for the past 10 days.

President Bush issued a major disaster declaration Tuesday for seven Oklahoma counties battered by the ice storm. Federal funds will now be available to reimburse state and local governments for cleanup and infrastructure repairs.

Crews working 13-hours shifts have restored power to all but 32,943 homes and businesses by Wednesday morning. Utility officials said power cannot be restored to some structures until the customers repair damage to connections where electrical service enters a home or business.

In Oklahoma City, city officials on Wednesday announced a pilot program with state and federal agencies to repair damaged residential electric meter bases for *free*.

Our country is a constitutional republic, partnered with a theology of democracy, if that makes sense. What I pick up from liberals, who talk about how the poor and the needy, and our governments role. There is no doubt that people in this country need help, but in an effort to find responsibility and resolution to this social problem, in a liberals effort to verbalize what they think should be done......it sounds like socialism. Do they really know what it is and its long term effect?

Thick black smoke billowed from a fire Wednesday on the White House compound in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
The blaze appeared to be located in Vice President Dick Cheney's suite of ceremonial offices on the second floor of the building. Executive Office Building, a commanding structure with a granite, slate and cast iron exterior at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and 17th Street, houses staff of the National Security Council and other agencies.

Is it just coincidence that plastic, as in video tape, burns with a thick black smoke?

Thank goodness no one was hurt.
Merry Christmas

I'm a citizen of the United States. I value our Constitution and the history of this great country and the 50 states which comprise it. Currently I live in Texas, but I've lived in Illinois, Colorado, New Mexico and Michigan, and have strong ties to Wyoming.

I have seen one of the original copies of the Magna Carta and was in awe of this very old document. I see it as one of the first steps taken by those being ruled to limit the powers of the rulers.

It stands as one of Britain's brightest contributions to mankind, in my view. How do you regard this incredible document?

The Democratic candidates for President seem to be united in their intent to impose more taxes on the wealthy. I offer three questions, one for your opinion, and two for data. With respect to the 10% earning the highest income in the US:
- What percentage of the total income tax revenue do you think they should pay?
- What percentage of the total income tax revenue do you think that they are actually paying now?
- What percentage of the total income tax revenue were they paying before the Bush tax cuts?

Have fun!
