Yes. The world changed on Sept 11th 2001. If the people charged with protecting us are to be able to do the job they must have the tools to do it with. Despite the whining and the moaning on the left about the Patriot Act eroding civil liberties the fact is in 6 yrs they have not been able to site one instance where this has occured. That is why they ended up voting for renewel of the act.
As a member of congress I would feel it was my duty to do whatever I could to help protect Americans.

I would vote for the PATRIOT Act only if some of its content were a bit different. Some things are too extreme and there are ways around taking so many liberties away. Though it is for the well-being of the people, to minimize the amount of civil liberties being taken away (hopefully temporary), the ways around some things are tangible, more elaborate guidelines, etc.

Yes. It was needed primarily to remove the "wall" which had been erected to prevent various intelligence and law enforcement agencies from sharing information on suspected terrorists. And it contains enough in the way of restrictions to prevent any violation of civil rights. That seems to be the leading issue for those who have never read one word of the Act or inquired into its legislative history.

no i wouldn't first off it wasn't even written when they voted on it , it was mostly blank pages. 2ND laws don't make you more secure they only fool you into a false sense of security
" those who have never read one word of the Act or inquired into its legislative history."

I would not....What I would vote for is civil rights. Let the terrorist come to a country where we will all have the ability to kill them, every last terrorist. I like the idea of a mature person with a fire arm like my grandmother, she would kill them all. Praise the lord!

Absolutely not! It is clearly unconstitutional, and that document is not, despite what George Bush said (and I heard a recording of him saying it) is "just a G(o)d D(a)mn piece of paper!

No. It's unconstitutional, and unfair to normal American citizens. The more power the government has the more they abuse it.
