The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money.
A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
but one advertising agency did a good job of
putting that figure into some perspective in
one of its releases.

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New Orleans It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division . .

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number, what does it mean?

A. Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman, child), you each get $516,528.

B. Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

C. Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,066,012.

Washington, D.C .. HELLO!!! ... Are all your calculators broken??

Tax hi m until he's good and sore.

Tax his coffin,

and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened? Can you spell 'politicians!'

And I still have to 'press
1' for English.

What the heck happened?????

I noticed that you missed the Excise Tax in your list. It was supposed to be a "temporary tax" added to our phone bills for 1 year to pay for parks and recreation area clean up. That was in the 70s. Look at your phone bill, it's still there.

Income tax was 1% and only affected 1% of the population when it was introduced. Now it is around 20% on 100% of the population.

When Social Security was introduced it paid "retirees" at age 65 and the average life span was 62. We still get it at 65, but the average life span is now 78.

Every "limited" social program (social security, medicare, medicaid, etc.) currently costs 10x - 50x more than it was proposed to cost before it was implemented. The prescription drug benefit that was passed by Bush is already costing 4x what was predicted, and it has only been around for a couple of years.

Never, ever give the government more power. It is 100% garunteed that it will be abused. That was the whole point of the Constitution. It limited the government and only gave it the powers that were explicitly stated in the Constitution.

As one well-known member of Congress once said, "A billion here, a billion there - pretty soon it starts adding up to REAL money!"

Apparently edward I has a hard on for illegal aliens, yet he fails to recognize that almost all of us are descendants of America's first illegal aliens who came over on boats from Europe; squeezed native American Indians on to reservations; stole from them; cheated them; slaughtered them and squandered their land. As these "illegals" moved westward, they killed the great American buffalo just for the sport of it [while native American Indians regarded the buffalo - and the great plains - as sacred entities to be shared by everyone]. Then these "illegals" imported black slaves from Africa, treating them as personal property other than God's human beings. Then our "industrial revolution" polluted our air, poisoned our waters, filled our land with garbage, and made sheer squalor out of what once was a beautiful, spacious, pristine country.

And today we spend TRILLIONS (not mere billions) on unconstitutional, illegal, unjustifiable, immoral 'wars' against other sovereign nations that in no way threatened, provoked or attacked the United States of America. In fact, as of August, 2006, "American Prospect" magazine calculated we'd spent $1.27 TRILLION on the Iraq 'war', or ONE MILLION DOLLARS A DAY for 3,487 years!

That adds up to REAL money! And, real debt that our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will still be paying off!

So what the heck's a few hundred billion here and there?
American taxpayers can afford it (even if they don't even know it!). After all, it's not OUR money - it's money that belongs to the United States Treasury, right? -RKO- 12/19/07
