Elections - January 2007

[Selected]: All categories Politics & Government Elections

Many people seem to decide to be Democrats or Republicans and then they decide which "camp" of clearly partisan and clearly deceptive proponents to "believe."

This doesn't sound very pragmatic. Instead of "believing" what Leftist or Rightist groups say the unemployment number means, why not just go to the BLS website and look up what it means? Instead of "believing" Rush Limbaugh or Barney Frank about tax revenue, why not just look up what federal tax receipts are?

In the age of information I can't understand why when we have these discussions so many people operate with a set of facts that just isn't accurate. On some issues, especially the economic ones, the facts are available from unbiased sources such as the Fed or the Census Bureau, and clearly point to a conclusion and you see people who for some reason "want" to reach another conclusion and just "decide" to "believe" a different set of facts.

Why do people prioritize political identity over reality? Why?

How about each poll contains say 5 "fair" multiple choice questions that were pre-determined to be fair by some committee?

This would of course yield different results, but fairness is what counts.

What do ya think?

I thought in a democratic society, you were supposed to vote for the best candidate based on their principals and past actions. Which would mean that candidates from either party, moderate or extreme on issues, should be up for your consideration in every election.

Yet, many people (I'm including both republicans and democrats, conservatives and liberals, alike) pick their politicial affiliations and stick with them like it's their religion or favorite sports team.

The media makes fun of swing voters every election for not being able to make up their minds, but thank God for them... they might be the most rational and smartest Americans out of all of us for engaging the system the way it was meant to serve us.

I see a lot of Griping about both liberals, conservatives, Democrats, Republicans and I am curious, SInce both sides seem to complain so much about the other side. How many of you that are of voting age have actually voted in every election that you have been eligible to vote in? and I am not just talking Presidential, but off year, state, local etc. Be Honest. I am almost 45 and have only missed 1 opportunity to vote. So I have a right to voice my opinion, and in my opinion if you do not exercise your right to vote, you forfeit your right to complain about the system. So lets see the numbers of you and who has the courage to be honest!!!

Are'nt there people out there that are SO tired of hearing,"lets get a black president, or "hurray, two black coaches are going to the superbowl" Slavery ended long ago, should'nt we just drop the "poor black" mentality? In case no one has noticed... the white person is the one being discriminated against now.

Does no one care that he was raised by a radical muslim? He attended a radical muslim school where he was taught to kill americans. Is his color so important to the minoritys of america? The race card is played so often, I frankly am tired of hearing" poor me, I'm a different color"

I just recently read some information about him and his views on become President. However, I know it is highly unlikely he will get the Democratic nomination due to the other contendors status.
Any thoughts on Bill Richardson?

From the day that democrats decided to be anti-war in the 2004 elections, the country became divided. Three years later you're either a fascist nazi who supports the Bush regime -or- you're a bleeding heart liberal without a plan who cares only about votes instead of what's best for the country. But what IS best for the country? Are you going to vote for a right wing candidate? A left wing candidate? Or possibly..........a mixed ticket with a moderate democrat and a moderate republican that are somewhere in the middle and able to find common ground?

...candidate that announced a couple days ago. Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico.

He's more of a centrist, has proven abilities to achieve consensus, is diplomatic, and is very smart... Plus he has executive experience (governorships prepare you for the presidency much better than being a senator), AND he's Latino.

Trust me on this - if you want to WIN in 08', you'd better ditch the first two losers I mentioned.

Personally I won't be. I don't think that right now this nation needs a female President. I know it would be an AWESOME step for females, BUT I don't think now is the time or SHE is the right one to be the first. Her motives are not sincere or honest. Do you agree, why or why not!? :-)
