Please call it something else and I'm OK with whatever rights you are seeking and I support you fully. Marriage is between a man and a woman. The ramifications of traditional marriage in society and the courts are far reaching. Don't try to redefine marriage. Call it Domestic Partner, Same Sex Union. Stop arguing over semantics. What would you be satisfied calling it if all the legal considerations were included? and Why?

it seems so illogical
how can it be?.... they put braile on baby changing stations (could be messy to say the least), and drive-through ATMs. we park in driveways and drive in parkways. there are so many people in this world, yet the majority feels alone and abandoned. we have a constitution and a declaration of independence establishing our rights, yet we are not free from our own governments, set to protect us. a government of the people for the people and by the people, but hundreds of laws are passed every day without our knowledge by a select few. a person can blame God for the misery in thier life, yet say they do not believe in a god. ignorance of the law is considered no excuse, yet they do not teach us the laws. in fact, to learn the laws, one must be accepted into law school. we have an internet, available to virtually all of us, and still we have politicians make our choice of president. in the last how many years have we had a president elected from a write-in ballot? Ross Perot, (an oil tycoon), can run for president, on the promise to not even take pay, let alone allow lobbyists to bother him without success. yet two George Bushes, ( not commonly known, father and son oil tycoons,) can be ellected president. the internet is considered a tool, but is more commonly used for entertainment, harrasment, invasion of privacy, and destruction. we have freedom of the press, but the truth is only printed in underground newspapers and magazines and back pages in fine print. we have the right to free speech, yet can be thrown in jail for what we say. we can even be thrown in jail for victimless crimes. there are almost as many laws in this country as there are people. we are taught proper reading and writting in elementary, then taught shorthand in highschool. in schools they tell us that Columbus "discovered America", what of the nomads, vikings, eskimos, and Amerigo Vespucci ( not sure of the spelling)? we are supposed to have separation of church and state, can't pray in school, yet can get credits for attending a mormon church for one hour a day in high school. our government spends hundreds of billions of dollars on wars, and rebuilding the countries they destroy, while we have millions of people living below poverty level. we are offered Social Security that is not considered secure. we pay income tax, then sales tax, inheritance tax, road tax, sin tax, (that is correct, SIN tax), fuel tax, state tax, county tax, and even city taxes ( talk about taxation without representation!!!). the rich can keep getting richer, while the poor keep getting suppressed. if the 2000 richest people in the world, along with our governments, surrendered 60% of thier monies to the public, the middle and lower class people could join the upper class on vacations and owning thier own homes and cars, as well as eliminate all debts from the lower through upper classes , (life liberty and the pursuit of happiness). we go to war over oil, when all of our cars could run on our own waste. our governments start wars over pipelines, then claim we are at war with terrorists, (I have lots of info on this subject). how the hell can this be? it just seems so illogical to me!!! are we blind, or just docile, like cattle? well, you tell me. better yet tell a freind!!! oh yeah, let us not forget, we speak english in america, Hmmm!!!

The emergency crews here in Austin (EMTs and firefighters) get no respect! They put their lives on the line everyday for strangers who won't so much as Pull Over For Them! How could you ever explain to a mother that her child died in fire because you couldn't miss the green light?! Isn't it against the law to not yield to them?! What can I do to change this- before someone I know/love becomes the next victim? I tried the major newspaper here- but to no avail. What's next on my to-do list?

I've asked about mandatory national service, with a military option.
What a bout mandatory national service for the Peace Corps fulfilling the Peace Corps mission.

The Peace Corps' mission has three simple goals:
1. Helping the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women.
2. Helping promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served.
3. Helping promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.

FORM OF NATIONAL SERVICE.
(1) as a member of the Peace Corps;

OBLIGATION FOR YOUNG PERSONS.
It is the obligation of every citizen of the United States, and every
other person residing in the United States, who is between
the ages of 18 and 42 to perform a period of national
service.

TERM OF SERVICE.
18 months

"To provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons in the United State, including women, perform a period of military service OR a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes."

FORM OF NATIONAL SERVICE.
(1) as a member of an active or reverse component of the uniformed services;
(2) in a civilian capacity that, as determined by
the President, promotes the national defense, including national or community service and homeland security.

OBLIGATION FOR YOUNG PERSONS.
It is the obligation of every citizen of the United States, and every
other person residing in the United States, who is between
the ages of 18 and 42 to perform a period of national
service.

Aside from the Air Force Our military is stretched dangerously thin. With members of the Army and Marines working on second and third full tours in Iraq.
Something drastic needs to be done to bolster their numbers.

Maybe I haven't done a real good search online, but I've tried, and mostly what I get is people trying to make a buck off of me by performing the service for me. I just want to go down to a courthouse, fill out the paperwork on my own, and pay for it. I understand it may be a lengthy process, but does anybody in Orange County California have any idea how to go about this?

I am revolted by George Bush and his cronies. Maybe you are on his payroll and you cannot see how you are selling your freedoms so cheaply! The American Indians sold their freedom for beads, you sell yours for a big SUV and a house you will never own, courtesy of presidential order 11004, wake up, the machine is going to grind you to bits; and that administration is NOT for freedom!

It is unfair for muslims to be allowed paid holiday leave to celebrate their religious festivals while we Christians are not allowed equal paid time off. Example in point: muslim teachers are allowed time off for several muslim holidays each year. While they are off, it is left for their Christian colleagues to cover their lessons. They do not make the time up and also take the Christian holidays off as well as regular recesses. This cannot be right.

It seems to me that more and more, government is being controlled by those with money. Big corporations have the money to hire lobbyists to push legislation through congress that favors them. It also seems like only a person with money can hope to win office on the national level. What can Americans do to bring the governing power back into the hands of the common people?

Every time I pay for a prescription I am angered by the fact that so many get their prescriptions free and so few of us pay. It does not take an advanced degree in economics to realise that the system is flawed and unworkable. Those of us in the 40% tax bracket and many of those in the lower bands could actually buy better health care insurance for less than our enforced contributions. My major bone of contention here is the system has become untenable in light of a wave of rising entitlements. This is compounded by the fact that people that have never contributed are demanding treatment as a matter of divine right. There will be some vocal liberals who will lambast me for that last comment, but I clearly state that I do not want to pay for the medical benefits of someone who has not contributed; let me and those who think like me opt out and then we will see how far and how much the socialists are willing to support the underclass

I believe that the rightful role of government is to maintain order and property. I feel that the government has no right to put their hand in my pocket so that I can support the idle, the ignorant, the untrustworthy, the never do wells etc. Why should those that contribute the least benefit the most? The middle classes have become the new slave class; with the underclass the new masters.
