Never vote for a North-Eastern elite Democrat. The Kennedys, Clintons and John Kerrys do not deserve more power.

End lobbying - We are all controlled by money to some degree. This is especially apparent in the political arena. It takes large sums to run political campaigns. Plus I have to admit that most of us would be swayed by perks, and people constantly throwing money at us.
Impose term limits - I think 2 types of people seek elected office. The first is the power hungry set. The second is people who honestly believe they can make a difference. The problem with the second type is that they find out really quick that it is impossible to accomplish anything in Washington if you don't play the you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours game. With the term limits we would get the first type out without a fuss after so many years. For the second type they would be more aggressive with representing their constituents and passing their agenda given limited time frames to act.
Vote for more independent and 3rd party candidates.
You have keyed into the biggest issue. Congress is controlled by money. It doesn't matter which party you talk about because they are both guilty of this. The American people suffer because of this, and we are in sore need of change. The problem is that it has been proven time and again that Congress people will not act against their own interests no matter what the will of the American people is. It is time for some new blood in the political arena.
iqstrike: Anarchy is never the answer. Anarchy is merely the destruction of civilized society. Further, while it would be nice if could vote on individual issues, but it would never work in practice. People just do not have that kind of time on their hands.

The only way this will ever happen is for there to be a radical change in voting laws. First you would have to say that only citizens of the United States who actually own property and pay a positive net tax burden could vote. Then you would have to change things so that only people who are born inside the United States AND whose parents are US citizens would be citizens. If these two things were done the problem would be fixed

Get rid of the Constitution, which was just a start-up plan to be superseded by legislation once the government was up and running. Representative government does not work; people should be allowed to vote on the issues. Electing is not voting; it is picking some pre-owned politician to do all your voting for you.
You have to fight force with force. "Proper channels" are all controlled by the powerful few. Strikes, boycotts, sabotage, civil disobedience, infiltration, and violence are all effective methods if people ignore our phony civics and take the law back into their own hands. Americans have to learn how to form action groups instead of being suckered into voting and the useless yacking of free speech.

Write AND call your congressional rep, write AND call your senator. Join organizations like www.grassroots.org and www.downsizedc.org. Membership is free and they seem to be having some effect on our politicos.
Start your own grassroots organization. The thing that politicians fear most is an informed and VOTING public. The politicos rely on the hard core party members to vote a straight ticket so informed and NON-socialist voters can make a real difference.
Join the NRA. This is not only about guns, it is about constitutional rights that are being taken away.

Read the Essays of Jonh Locke and begin putting some of his principles into action. I also love Thoreau; Henry David! We are all responsible. They elections with the new computer voting system are more susceptable to rigging, so I vote on an absentee ballot!
Write to your elected officials, and if that doesn't work have them impeached, and if that doesn't work tar and feather them or call Robin Hood-lol!
