Please call it something else and I'm OK with whatever rights you are seeking and I support you fully. Marriage is between a man and a woman. The ramifications of traditional marriage in society and the courts are far reaching. Don't try to redefine marriage. Call it Domestic Partner, Same Sex Union. Stop arguing over semantics. What would you be satisfied calling it if all the legal considerations were included? and Why?

Don't tell me to shut up. Just answer your opinion. No one is telling lovers not to live together. The semantics are in the language of the applications and changes in the current written law. There is nothing equal about a same sex union as compared to a traditional marriage. Get real and talk about all that is denied a same sex union due to the current law. I'm not your scapegoat. Focus on the issues.

Right, gays and lesbians can't see why adding same sex to the law books changes the meaning of marriage for others. They don't see why it's important to not change a long standing law politically and religiously born according to our standards. That is exactly my point. It makes a differnce to the people with conventional conservative standards. Don't revise the definition of marriage, just make parrellel same sex laws apart from marriage laws. I'm sure someone wants to marry their dog too and include that in the licensing section.

What is the big deal? If they want to marry, let them marry. If they don't want to or can't get married, all of this can be solved with a simple will and power of attorney.

Your plea is slightly hypocritical. You don't care about the legal proceedings but you care about what society calls the "ceremony"? What is the difference between calling it one thing and another if we all know what we mean? It's like beating around a bush. I don't see how by applying the word marriage to homosexual "unions" it somehow taints the word or the value for straight men and women?
We are not equivocating the word marriage with bad omens. You are.

I'm not concerned about what some gay couple wants to call their union. It's only a word.
If you want to rail against the abuse of the word, try celebrities who get married for a weekend, or who marry so many times that even they can't tell you how many.

It isn't about marriage, it is about equality. Marriage = Marriage. Otherwise it is discrimation and inequality. Surely you must experience some kind of discrimination in your life even if you may be a white male living in Canada? America?
How does it feel? Try for more empathy and you may reach the understanding yourself without feeling so threatened. Gay marriage is not a gain at Het marriage expense.

I want marriage, because I want to marry the woman I love. How would you feel if someone told you that you weren't allowed to marry the person you loved?
Seperate but equal is not equal. We learned this in the 50's.
Reality check on aisle 5 please!

You know, I would be fine calling it snickerdoodle if it included all the same legal considerations. Unfortunately, a domestic partnership doesn't.
Rules regarding insurance, property, inheritance, hospital visits, taxes, adoption, etc. etc. etc....

ALL I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS IS...
MARRIAGE = GIFT GOD GAVE TO MAN BETWEEN MAN AND WOMAN IN ORDER TO SPEND THEIR LIFETIMES TOGETHER HAPPILY.
NO GAY PEOPLE SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE UNIONS OR MARRIAGES.
