I know rich people buy islands all the time. You can get online and shop for them all day long, but they are still nonetheless under some governments jurisdiction. I own the property that my house is own, it still belongs to the U.S. government. Could someone buy land outright? In the same fashion that the U.S. bought alaska from Russia and how would one go about this? Not like I could muster the resources to pull off such a feat, just wondering if there's any precedent.

I am a US citizen, retired and living in Europe on a reduced income....In May of 2006, I received a letter informing me that my monthly benefit was being reduced by almost $300......no explanation accompanied this notice!......I filled out the required form for a reconsideration of this reduction and to date have received no answer......I have been in contact with the Rome branch of the SSA for assistance, but their records and inquiries to Baltimore show no reason for the reduction........they also have sent 2 or 3 postal mailings with no response......this week after sending an e-mail to Baltimore, they received a one line reply which completely avoided any explanation of the reduction.....over the past few years, I have received almost 10 letters from the SSA displaying disturbing inconsistencies in their professionalism and accuracy. I am at the point where I am considering getting legal assistance, but I can't afford a lawyer. How do I receive a response from these people?

This opinion-polling website, which promotes the big new idea of direct democracy with a perfectly balanced "constitution", questions the merits of indiscriminate universal suffrage and proposes that only taxpayers should be allowed to vote and that those who pay more tax should have more votes, similiar to voting rights that shareholders in a company would have.

The secret ballot would be abolished and a Register of Voters published, with their votes and voting history a matter of public knowledge, to prevent abuse.

Of course, it is new, radical and revolutionary!

Would you support a party that runs along the lines of www.1party4all.co.uk? It asks moral questions and proposes practical courses of action, such as whether to lower taxes, not engage in pointless wars, perfectly combining moral philosophy with practical politics.

Direct democracy is the only means fringe parties can unite against our 2-party oligarchy with indistinguishable policies! Do you agree?

Soldiers putting thier lives on the line every single day in Iraq and Afghanistan yet having to sleep under landrovers IN bases because of lack of accomodation and proper beds - or in a camp bed and sleeping bag combo in tents. To add insult to injury, these soldiers CONTINUE to pay accomodation and food charges out of thier wages.

Compare that to prisoners living accomodations - air conditioned, regular meals and proper rest periods - of that I am sure the UN and Red Cross etc make sure of.. and, to add insult to injury, these prisoners do not have to pay a cent for thier accomodation or food !

You get the picture here..?

Don't you think soldiers should AT LEAST get equal treatment to prisoners - ie proper rest periods, proper accomodation - after all, the Govt are docking thier wages to pay for such BASIC living standards - EVEN whilst in the theatre of war !!

Just like Harding and Nixon, the Bush White House is relying on the executive privilege defense to keep their staff from testifying under oath. Just like Harding and Nixon, Bush will lose. Which of his hatchet men will decline to stop the bullet? Who will be the first to make a deal?

He was after all a member of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party. He saw how the Republican Party was delibrately playing on the racist attitudes of white southern conservatives in an effort to the take the South away from Democrats. This is what he had to say about conservative Republicans Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater.

"The war has strengthened domestic reaction. It has given the extreme right, the anti-labor, anti-*****, and anti-humanistic forces a weapon of spurious patriotism to galvanize its supporters into reaching for power, right up to the White House. It hopes to use national frustration to take control and restore the America of social insecurity and power for the privileged. When a Hollywood performer [REAGAN], lacking distinction even as an actor can become a leading war hawk candidate for the Presidency, only the irrationalities induced by a war psychosis can explain such a melancholy turn of events."

only now in countries in western europe are people being told the truth in who actully won world war 2.The western front was nothing compared to the eastern front.Even the germans admitted after the war that it was the soviet union who won world war 2.You could fit over 30 normandy beach landings on the eastern front, thats how huge it was.The brave red army soldiers had to fight house to house, hand to hand in every city which the nazi's occupied in the soviet union, that one of the reasons why the soviets lost so many brave soldiers fighting the nazis. The whole truth is, the germans are deployed over 3 million of it's best waffen ss troops and armour and lufttafe on the eastern front, while letting conscripts to fight on western front. The bravery and courage of the red army soldiers is what caused the defeat of nazi germany.what do people think, thank god for the soviets who freed europe from the nazis.
