I just can't believe someone suggested drug use or turning gay to avoid service. I would be hesitant to taking advice from someone that suggests drug use for any reason. Just don't enlist.

If you are referring to a country other than the US, then, just look at the local papers and see what gets a person excluded and copy them. I'm guessing that you are talking from the stand point of England or in Europe somewhere, since the US currently doesn't have a national military service commitment.

Today:

Self-exclude - Don't enlist. If you do not sign the papers, you will not be sent to boot camp. We still have an all initially volunteer military.

Avoid military recruiters if the temptation is too much for you.

Immediate future :

Drug use or homosexual activity will disqualify you.

There are many medical conditions that can be disqualifying as well. Most of the persons rejected for enlistment fall into this category.

You can claim status as a conscientious objector. This is the least likely path to keep one from military service. The requirements are quite specific, and you will have to prove prior non-violent behavior.

Even with complete and proper documentation, the disposition will be decided by a board of your local pro-military leadership, and approval is unlikely.

Eventually, the prohibition against gays in the military will be rightly lifted, so this will not be available for long.

Given the desire to raise the number of our active duty numbers, and the drop in the numbers of recruits, drug use may not be disqualifying for too long either.

For the next several election cycles, vote against the incumbent, regardless of party affiliation. The old timers owe the most to the corporations, and are responsible for the indoctrination of the freshman lawmakers.

The only way to change the system is to remove all of the Party politicians from office.

The Parties will be forced to respond by supplying new faces, rather than risk putting an incumbent in the race.

In six years we can completely purge Washington of the "Good ol' boys & girls" and maybe get back to a system of representation of the voter's interests.

I think what your asking is if your trying to jion what can disquailify you. I hope so cause thats what I'm answering. There are several way, both medically and pychologically. If you have on record and thought of suicide or major depession that is reacurring/ untreatable/you havent treated this can disquaily you. Physically, if you fail your hearing/ vision test to many times or if you have a disorder that could prevent you from doing your job or harming others, i.e. depleted cartalige in your knee or (I'm not sure of this one but i think so) turrets. But as I said before most of it has to be documented and/ or checked out by a military physician. Hope it helps.
