There was a question as to whether or not a youngster should get a horse. I was going to answer, realize that a horse needs a lot of space (one to five acres minimum), takes a lot of time every single day - no matter what you feel like or how much homework you have, a horse needs at least 2 hours of your time feeding, watering, grooming, mucking stalls and if you're caught up, catching a ride. You also need to check fencing, which can be expensive if you don't have it already. Please don't expect your parents to do the work with your horse. Check into local 4H clubs, they can help you on your horse quest. Expect to also spend a lot of extra time online trying to find the best solution to any horse need, what kind of fence (I recommend www.horseguardfence.com), what kind of hay and feed, any behavior problems you might have, tack, a barn, shed, stall or shelter.....it's a lot of work! If this still sounds like something you want, go for it! Good luck to you, sweetie!
