Not sold here in eastern Washington. With a manufacturer, I can locate a number, get the distributor nearest me, and then from them find out where they are sold.

Well im 13, i have always loved horses, my parents
were awesome and let me take lessons at 11yrs old
every Friday. I was doing good at first, and was
really proud of myself, i even got my friend to
start riding with me. But one time, while we were
learning to sitting trot without stirrups, someone
did the one thing my instructer told us NOT to do,
(it was even on a sign on the door) They didn't knock
before entering the room and sliding the door open
spooked the horses, im told i kinda jumped off my horse
while it was bolting, but i don't really remember, i just
remember hitting the ground. Okay. so i was kinda scared after
that, they placed me with a new horse, named Kat. Kat
was a good horse so i agreed to try again. Next Friday
came along and it turns out that someone brought their
golden retriever along, the door wasn't closed properly,
the dog got in, barked at the horses, they all bolted.

both of these clips are very interesting. they show high speed impact of a barefoot hoof and a shod hooof. look closely and you can see the vibration travel up the leg of the shod hoof, but the vibration gets absorbed into the hoof on the barefoot one.

I had never thought to have an emergency wiring kit until 1 year ago at Denver Stock Show and some idiotic mechanic didn't do a wiring job correctly and the plug completely disentegrated in my hands once I hit the Stock Show. I haul tandem, with a flat bed full of driving carts behind my horse trailer and couldn't unload the mules until I got the flatbed unhooked and of course it was the flat beds wiring plug that disintergrated :) My buddies had a wiring kit and rubuilt my plug right there in lineup. I know how one of those, complete with a stripping kit, wires, plug etc.. just incase.

I always had the electrical tape, the tools, duct tape, tire changer etc. What else do you guys carry for emergencies for your trailer while your driving?

I'm stranded with horses (snowed in, castaway on an island perhaps) and I can only carry 10 items in my trusty medical kit. I found scissors, vetwrap, dressings/padding and a few hypodermics in my underwear - what else should I carry with me to cover all bases until help arrives? I have already compiled my own list but I want to see what everyone else has and their reasoning for packing it!

Trying to think of questions that are slightly more though provoking and entertaining than "horse slaughter" or "name my pony" - think Kicking Bear is doing a great job with some great questions - anyway
Aren't there just things that people hold so true and fast that you just disagree with. Things that are taken as the gosspel in the horse world and you buck the trend.
Here's a few of mine- not every horse needs it's saddle professionaly fitted. In polo, you have 5 saddles and over 10 ponies in your string and you swap saddles between chukkas - it's anyone's guess who is getting what saddle and I've never had a sore or bad back on any of my ponies. Same with racehorses - I have a full tree exercise saddle and it goes on everyone. Drives me mad when people cite - you need a professional to fit your saddle!
Another one is injecting penicillin into the neck - stick it in the leg, less likely to abscess and if it does, it will drain better from the horse walking around

Was wondering what strange or weird ailments and conditions you've seen in horses or things that made you think "what the...?"
I've seen a few strange ones including a foal that had it's head fused around to it's neck (c-section), and a foal born with a hare lip and cleft palate and no eyes. One of the weirdest things I've ever seen though was a mare with vestibular syndrome. She had a foal on her and was perfectly fine but then we started commenting that when ever you led her out to the field with the foal, she was ignorant and had started running over people and barging. She quickly declined and would drool, run in circles and have her head hung on one side. She then turned vicious and I mean vicious. We had to take the foal and put it on a nurse mare and put her out in the covering barn for her and our safety. She displayed symptoms of rabies and we had to check that she had never been out of the UK - finally was diagonosed with Vestibular Syndrome.

Every show I went to I got last place with my yearling colt because he was the shortest. I know I asked the stewards and they said that is their best guess. There were several that were almost 16 hands! His dam is 15.3 and his sire is 15.2 so he has some height in his blood. He will be 2 in March and right now he is about 14.1. So my question is what do the people that show in halter give their horses to get them that tall so fast? I heard probios will, but I've been giving him that for over six months and haven't seen much change.

I have a Christmas parade coming up and Rain, my Palomino, has a rather orange tail. It is too cool here to get her wet, so is there a way that I can whiten it without getting her wet?

Thanks!

Hey everyone!
I am thinking of buying or leasing a horse, but am not sure which breed.
Ive been researching breeds, and am thinking of a hanoverian, but am not sure.
here are my riding details.

im 16 and have been riding for 3 years
i can walk, trot, canter, and gallop very well
i can jump small-medium jumps
i need a horse which is calm and stable
and the horse has to be able to be kept in a pasture most of the year.

does anyone know if a hanoverian is good for many, or if not, any other breeds??

Thanx so much!

What scares you most about the present state of the horse industry? Is it...

The fact that all the baby boomers are leaving or get to old to compete, and taking all their money and experience with them?

Maybe that there is not a good influx of new people into horses?

That the people that are coming into the industry haven't got a clue.... but think they do?

The lack of good riding trails and areas?

That someone else just broke your high score on Howrse?

Or whatever other fears you have about this industry.

I'm looking for some neat ideas to keep my horse occupied when he has to be in his yard... the yard is pretty big (enough for him to canter around easily) so anything you can think of would be great... He's pretty smart so puzzle type things are good... i dont really want to buy gimmicy things... today he got a milk bottle with holes poked in it and he licked the molasis out. I usually hide food around his yard but i want other ideas....
thanks for those who answer

Ok I am riding my horse in a santa claus parade and the theme is pioneer Christmas. For my costume, I already have:
-a burghandy fleece saddle pad with fauz rabit fur lining(I made it myself with staples:P)
-a bunch of goldish and redish bows for her main and tail
-dark green polos
-I can make polos out of the same material as the saddle pad
what else can I do for our costume(mine too)

I wondered how horses feel the cold. I see many in fields with coats on. What about the ones with no coats on and no trees to shelter from severe biting winds. Some are Arabian stalions surely they feel the cold ?

Today I saw a really cute pony. It looks similar to a belgian draft cross, with the blondish mane and tail. Its coat is a chestnut/brown color.
It looks almost like the horse on the far right in this picture.

Is it possible that a horse can have a migraine specially noticable right before changes in the weather?
Me and myself has 'em, and the gelding we have here shows the same symptoms i get - he is grumpy and touchy, spooky and jumpy(that's not me :)), and that's just for part of the day and he's back to normal. Somebody Knows?

I have been harrassed by this little moron now since a horse slaughter thread started. I have reported her to yahoo, but if any of you buds know who this little twit is on YA and her ID, feel free to let me know.

Unfortunately I have the new 9.1 version on messenger and they haven't worked the bugs out to ignore this moron.

I would like to report her YA ID if anyone knows. Please feel free to send me an offline, your name will NOT be used :)

My dad had an accident on his horse and the horse had big gashes on his leg from it. Before this happend the horse would run up to us and absoulutly love us and want to be with us. Now my dad cant go near him and I can only go up to him if I am completley alone.

How can we fix this. We tried giving him treats and petting him whenever he comes but he is so scared.
