I had never thought to have an emergency wiring kit until 1 year ago at Denver Stock Show and some idiotic mechanic didn't do a wiring job correctly and the plug completely disentegrated in my hands once I hit the Stock Show. I haul tandem, with a flat bed full of driving carts behind my horse trailer and couldn't unload the mules until I got the flatbed unhooked and of course it was the flat beds wiring plug that disintergrated :) My buddies had a wiring kit and rubuilt my plug right there in lineup. I know how one of those, complete with a stripping kit, wires, plug etc.. just incase.

I always had the electrical tape, the tools, duct tape, tire changer etc. What else do you guys carry for emergencies for your trailer while your driving?

Sounds really bad - but if I am traveling long distances with my horses, I bring a gun. I would not want to be caught in a car accident with a mangled horse and no way to ease it's suffering.

On a more sunny note... in my area it is not uncommon to see a horse wandering down the rode because it just liberated itself from slavery - so I always have a lead rope and halter in my car.

I end up driving my horse trailer alone quite often, and I don't like it as I'm no mechanic. But a girl has to do what a girl has to do - you can't show or buy new horses if you don't travel!
I don't take too much for the trailer, but I NEVER go anywhere without my drive up block - its the only way to fix a tire on the trailer. You don't have to unload the horses, just put the block in front of the front wheel of the trailer, SLOWLY drive up until the flat tire is off the ground and get to work! You can make one yourself out of a railroad tire or other heavy piece of wood.
I also have booster cables, my cell phone, fuses in my fuse box, tire iron and extension (I'm a tiny woman and removing tires is a nightmare) tool box with screwdrivers, plyers and other necessities, blocks for the trailer so it doesn't unroll when unhooked, flashlight, duct tape. That's about it. I am no mechanic, so if those things won't help me, I'm out of luck until someone comes along to rescue me! Sorry, but even cowgirls have their limits!
And let's not forget the most important things - stuff for me and my horses if we are stuck alongside the road. I have an extra halter and lead rope always with me, a lunge whip if necessary (You never know when your well trained horse decides he just will NOT load into the trailer one day) a bucket of water (with a lid so it doesn't all spill out as we travel) from home for my horse, a hay bag full of hay, a water bottle and snack for me, and a good book. If I was ever stranded somewhere, I could most likely phone to be resuced. If it was horribly hot I'd unblanket my horse, slide my back trailer door half open and leave all the windows open so my horse had fresh air, and I'd make sure he'd been watered and then had access to hay. I positively would not unload my horse unless it was a life or death thing, the last thing I need is my horse tied to a trailer by a busy road. What if he freaked out? What if I couldn't load him for some reason? I'm totally prepared to risk a tire and limp a short ways off the main road if necessary, too, because people are killed changing tires along the highway.
If I had to wait to be rescued, I'd read my book in between checking on my horse, have a snack and try to not get too grumpy while waiting.
It hasn't happened yet. But I have changed tires at horse shows, and that's bad enough!

Steve has made adapters for our particular trailer plug to fit virtually any kind that a borrowed truck might have in an emergency. They stay in the trailers, not the truck.

Throwing in a wiring kit is a great idea...we buy them a dozen at a time.

A small socket and wrench set, a leatherman, tape and plastic cable ties.

Spare light bulbs.

You should carry something that can turn any sturdy tree/post into a safe picket line (we have metal cable with hooks and rings and fasteners) in case you have to move the horses out of the trailer off the road. Short, safe cables to attach to the picket line are very handy. Mine have "breakaway" snaps on one end and regular on the other. They allow some movement without risk getting a leg caught up. Our motorhome gave up the ghost on the way home from Illinois a few years ago. Fortunately we had been camping with the horses, so we had all we needed to wait comfortably for sis to come back and rescue our butts. (Thanks TWH)

Geesh Lisa and Mule!!! Underwear and So-Co in emergancy kits can I go to shows with yall??? lol the so-co is great and the undies would come in handy when your so sloshed you laugh yourself silly and wet your pantS!!!! lol must be fun riding someplace with yall! lol

On a more serious note i do agree with Kicking Bear about the gun. i remember a few weeks ago there was a question about euthanasia vs gun to put a horse down and like a few of the folks who answered, (Mule I think you were one) I prefer a gun and Kicking bear is right, why be stranded in a mangaled wreck with a horse massively suffering waiting for a vet to get out there and ease it's pain? In our truck we carry spare tires , fix a flat , plug kits , extra wiring supplies , a human first aid kit , nauzeene (I get car sick easliy lol) a good book (hey if i'm not driving and get bored that's an emergancy quickly cured by a book,,, hence the need for nauzeene) , rain poncho and a mengiere of tools! lol In trailer I carry extra blankets , saddle pads , shipping boots , standing bandages a equine first aid kit that contains vet wrap , nolvasan , furizone , bute , bantamine , powdered lime (this is great for proud flesh) needles , syringes , gauze wrap , cotton wrap .. y first aid "kit" actually fills up a carrying style tool box lol. I'm an over perpared person for my horses, but it seems like my guys are a wee bit accident prone.... so it pays to have too much first aid stuff sometimes! lol I also keep an extra hange of clothes in not only the trialer but also the truck Heck I over prepare all the time! lol

Well up to now I'm not doing any trailering but the back end of my car contains a number of "useful " things that sit there and get in the way but I'm not about to be dumping them just in case.
I have a blanket, jump leads, electrical repair kit, numerous spanners, wd40, tape, balestring ( of course) a bottle jack, torches, tissue paper, jump leads, petrol can, fencing pliers and a headcollar and leadrope. There's always some form of drink in there and the glove box is a travelling pharmacy that infuriates my husband (as it tries to escape everytime it gets opened)
Starting trailering on a regular basis would probably add a whole lot more !

I love the undies! I also never go anywhere without a gun, so I'm with you on that! I am over prepared always. I have extra plugs, bulbs for lights, wires in case of wiring emergencies etc. I also carry a gallon of coolant, a tube of radiator sealant, a can of fix leak for the tires.

Since you are asking specifically about the vehicles and not the horsey aspect, I won't bore you with the HUGE medical supply box I have....
