I'm talking about horses being slaughtered for food...pet foods, people food, ect...

Cheshire Cat...so you are only against it because you are vegetarian...not because you think it's cruel? And my next statement isn't at you Cheshire, just so you know.

I figured this would be the perfect opportunity for all those who get their panties in a bunch about horses being slaughtered, that you people would take an opportunity to tell someone who is Pro Slaughter, why you are against it. I'm willing to listen but I guess the only time Anti Slaughter people answer is when it's a heated debate...I have read so many other responses on why people are against or for horse slaughter...come on people, here is your chance to change a Pro Slaughter persons mind...convince me, with details..not just with "I'm against horses for slaughter". Back yourselves up...tell me why...

Ashleigh...I have 5 horses as part of my family...so why does that mean I can't be Pro Slaughter? I do believe in Horse slaughter. Go read some of my answers on the subject...I'm very to the point about it.

alley t....now you are a vegetarian but and it's not okay for people to eat pigs and cows now either? Not what you said a few months back on a different question. Oh and why don't horses and such have natural predators? They are out in the fields where they can get attacked...your answer has got to one of the worst yet...at least most of these people sounded like they used a bit of logic in their answers...or stopped before they sounded completely like they made their opinions based on video's watched on the internet...next time you should answer with your own brain...and not with the hyped up crap people like the PETA propaganda.

2007-11-23 15:48:19 · update #9

alley t...another thing...thank goodness there weren't many people around like you in the prehistoric age...what do you think they ate then? That's right child...horses...they stoned them, speared them, ran them off cliffs...and horses weren't domesticated then.

Although I realize that the way they slaughter horses isn't all peaches and cream, if people looked through the history of slaughter they would see that things aren't that much different now...except that there wasn't all the unwanted horses out there then as there is now.

My point on horse slaughter is that there is nothing different between it and cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys and so on...no it's not pretty....but we gotta eat...would I ever eat a horse...I can't say for sure if I would or wouldn't. I have 5 horses myself...would I send them to slaughter? Never...4 of my horses came from auctions where there were meat buyers there. Do I hate the meat buyers? Not at all. Why? continued.

2007-11-23 15:58:59 · update #10

I don't hate the meat buyers because everyone knows who they are at the sales...and I certainly don't see anyone trying to out bid them when they are going for a horse for their trailers....and most of the time, they get the horses tehy get for practically nothing. I have the process of how horses are slaughtered...there isn't any difference from the way they do it to horses than there is on how they slaughter a cow. I don't see any bleeding hearts for cows. Why not? they go into the same kind of trucks horses go into. Basically, as I see it...some of you are hypocrites. You cry poor horsey because a lot of people keep them as companion animals...well a lot of other people keep other types of livestock for pets...and again...it's only poor horsey. No, people in the US don't eat horses...but there are others in the world who do. I am not about to knock them for that.

I am interested in how slaughterhouses for horses in other countries work. I already know about mexico.

2007-11-23 16:04:57 · update #11

Emily W...what gives people the right to chop of cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, turkeys...and use them for meat? As I said...hypocrite...bet you enjoyed your turkey or ham or goose for Thanksgiving. I know I loved the turkey we had...yet nobody cries "Poor Turkey!" People keep them for pets too you know.

2007-11-23 16:09:46 · update #12

Emily W...but you still eat meat don't you, like, beef, chicken, bacon comes from pigs...no just the supermarket. And those animals are slaughtered too. Therefore...you are a hypocrite.

Me...I love a good steak...Medium Rare. And I am not about to begrudge what other people in this world eat. People will be eating meat for a long, long time. And that meat will be slaughtered, regardless of what species it is...it's not just horses Emily W.

Lisa and Kitan...that's the point with all these anti slaughter people...they all cry poor horsies...but the have nothing to back themselves up with...it's amazing...you would figure that they would come out of the woodworks...to try and talk the Pro slaughter person in changing...but these lame answers on put in concrete...why I do believe in slaughter...of any edible animal, because I don't believe that its our right to say what other people eat is wrong. I don't think our slaughter practices in the US are cruel...sure they aren't nice, but gosh...it's not like what I hear it is in Mexico. My dad has eaten horsemeat before..he says it's really good....like a really tender steak. Everyone says people in the US never ate horses...they are so wrong. When my dad was a kid, they were really poor....and the government had canned meats for poor people...the gold cans were horse meat and they were distributed here in the good ole USA...my dad's family lived off it in the bad times.

slaughter houses here in Canada use the bullet method of killing the horses before slaughter. I find the responses to this question for the most part ill informed and blantant lies used by such groups as PETA and others to horrify the public into making ill informed decision on the subject.

I am amazed by the total ban in the USA for slaughter houses. Horses are defined by the law as livestock. Western society has been involved with making the horse more pet than livestock which was the horse's biggest down fall. When we started the process of making them domestic we also caused some serious problems for the horse in terms of natural selection. We as a society breed, and breed and breed countless of babies every year with no real market for them. We have in fact caused a serious over population which is in fact abuse to a very large scale.

In Europe horse meat is a regular table fare. There were discussions on another website about the European way of culling undesirable foals for human consumption, only keeping the ones with upost potential. I believe this is good population management on their part. They go in to breeding with the desire and love for the animal to prevent the foal from an uncertin future by culling for slaughter if unsuitable for whatever reason. Yes, it tugs at my heart and wouldn't consider it a practice I would start but I understand the reasoning behind it.

The USA's ban on slaughter is a great disservice for the horse world. Horses shipped to Mexico face a far more painful death than in Canada by far. Shipping the animals has become an expense that has further disserviced the horse world by driving down horse prices everywhere.

I had hoped the USA would of looked into installing some kind of safety net for these horses that are unwanted before installing the ban. I firmly belive abuse and neglect cases involving horses will escalate because there is nowhere to keep them or enough animal welfare agencies to see to their needs. The funding and the land is just not there.

If you ban slaughter for human consumption than why is beef, pork and the like still legal. They suffer the same treatment as horses have in the past without a ban coming into effect. Why is it OK to slaughter these species and not the horse. All are classified as livestock, shipped as such and killed in the same manner. Why not push for human treatment of horses bound for slaughter before an all out ban?

I have four horses and two ponies. I would never ship them to slaughter. I will give them a home for as long as they are alive or for as long as I am capable of having them. I even have them covered in my will. I still support slaughter even tho I have this stance with my own. I think education and breed group's working with breeders to help minimize over population would work to the horses advantage for more than banning slaughter.

I saw you had posted this question and I have purposely avoided it all day because I know that when I'm finished I'll be needing Protonix to stop those acid pumps in my gut going into overtime.
Reading the quality of the answers (Secrets was good though), doesn't it strike you that these are people that either dream of owning a horse or people that do not have any realistic idea about the world in general and how things operate? It's like beating your head against a brick wall - some people cannot think outside of the box and fail to realize that for every action, there is a consquence. Nobody seems to have grasped the fact that Happy Acres Retirement Home cannot take hundreds of thousands of horses a year.

As you know,I am pro-slaughter,and to those here who do not know me-yes I am a longtime horse lover, and owner.
well me-do little as you can see the anti-slaughter protest slaughter of horses and say how cruel it is,but yet they threaten and the same time and use violence in their answer!!!LOL I too belive alot of the anti-slaughter people do not live in the real world or have a understanding on what is going on in the horse industry because of now no slaughter here in the us,or they may not have a real horse-or PETA freaks.
LOVE your answer Lisa!

I just don't consider horses a meat animal like a beef cow...they are more of a pet, used for riding and many sporting events...beef cows whole purpose in life is beef, just like a dairy cow produces milk and is not butchered....I do agree there is a lot of unwanted horses out there but also there are a lot of good animals that are scooped up specifically to be sent to a horrid cruel death. The way they make these animals, any slaughter animal is inhumane....I don't like the idea of horses being eaten but it's not going to quit anytime soon so I would like to hope they could find more humane ways to put them down and any animal or bird heading to their maker.

I am pro Slaughter.
Because the US has banned it, horse slaughter is thriving in Canada and Mexico. Mexico's' slaughter method is particularly cruel and inhumane. They use a method called pithing which is repeated stabs with a knife to the horses spinal cord and then to the heart. I will spare you the gore, but you can do an Internet search if you want more info.
We need to reinstate slaughter in the US and make it as humane as possible. This is just MHO.

Well look at it this way, it's not only sick horses that go into slaughter. There was a tractor trailer crammed with horses on their road to slaughter, and during the road the trailer got into an accident. 21 out of the 40 something horses were saved, and many of them were still ride-able! One was even pregnant, and had a beautiful healthy baby that would've never had a chance to live because of slaughter. All those sweet innocent horses, who were thrown out merely because they didn't have a purpose in someones home, were just sent to be killed. Slaughter is entirely inhumane.

If it really is a horses time, euthanize. HUMANELY. Not slaughter.

Are these horses you speak of being slaughtered for food? And are they being bred for the same reason? I suppose if the answer is yes to both of these questions, then it's really no different than raising other animals for food. People have a hard time with it because horses are typically thought of as pets. But if you're talking about slaughtering just for the kill, then that's just wrong. It's going against nature's intentions.

I totally think slaughtering horses is stupid, even if they are sick! They are creatures doing no harm, what gives people the reason to chop the horses up and serve as dog food and other meats?! They go along helping us do things around the farm, and in return we torture and kill them!? You should be ashamed of yourself if you torture animals, espcecially horses! Would you like to be tortured and killed after doing tons of hard work and then be served in a doggie food can?? I DIDN'T THINK SO, BUDDY! Yes, I feel bad for what I eat, I cry everytime i hear an animal has died, I even cried when my dad shot this giant raccoon that was living in our chimney and I cried when my daddy killed the mouse that was in our house!!!! I care about all living things, so don't call me a hypocrite!

i think it is just cruel. Im a vegitarian, i dont think we should kill animals for food. now, i think deer is okay, because they have natural enemies, so even if we werent there, they would be killed by wolves, bears, etc. and the only way we cant actually kill them is by shooting them, and 9 times out of 10, the hunter makes it to where it doesnt suffer. the way those savge people kill chickens, cattle, horses, and pigs is just cruel. for u ppl who dont mind about slaughter, do u know what they actually do? they put their back feet in chains, then once they hoist them up, they cut their throats and take out their trachea. do u realize that they cannot breathe? and while they are on the ground, trying to breathe, they kick their own blood in their faces. Those ppl are cruel, and they dont care. in Korea, what they do with dogs... omg, they make them suffer, because they think it tastes better. with horses, they take knives, and they stab them repeatedly in the bases of their manes, so they can make them paralyzed once they hit their spine. Ouschwitz starts when people look at slaughter houses and think 'they are only animals.' u dont see animals doing that to us. and many animals are smarter than us. monkeys, apes, birds, hell, even rats!! y the hell did we domesticate them? to kill, abuse, beat, and spit on them? i very well dont think so. 'Man's best friend?' It sure seems like we are there enemies. How can u look into an animal's eyes, and do what u are doing? sure, eat them! they are only animals! i hope u all get poisoned if u think they r just animals. sure, they ARE animals, but they protect out houses, they allow us on there back, and without complaint!! its sick.

Horse Slaughter!
I don't think there is any real need for horse meat these days.
Is there any food that you eat that has horse in it? Even pet meats that r made out of horse would be nasty. I wouldn't feed it to my dog. :P
Horses have a purpose eg. riding, farm work and lots of other uses. They are very smart animals. Where as other animals like cow and sheep are stupid, so we eat them... lol. I'm not a vego and i don't think i ever could be but i would not go somewhere an order a steak of horse. Agree or disagree that's just my view. Have a good day! :)
