Anglos are good. These are a cross between a thoroughbred and an Arabian. Most horses that compete successfully in eventing are cross breeds, mostly crossed with thoroughbred and clydesdale. Also, exotic looks don't matter, just as long as you and the horse get along well together, and that the horse is sound.

Arabians, Hanoverians, Trahkeners, Quarter Horses, Appolosas, Mustangs, but generally horses that have good feet and legs and in good shape to carry a long distance are used for cross country. Mules are good too but most people don't use them Warmbloods are the most ideal. Cross Country sounds like a lot of fun. I hope you do well. Let me know how you do in the future...how you placed.
GOOD LUCK!

Any horse in good condition can do X-country.
However, I know some people like to use QHs and Arabs for speed. The key would be to get a sound, calm horse you can build a team with. Even a mellow TB would do well in a cross-country course if they (you) had proper training.
Good luck!

warmbloods warmbloods and more warmbloods. Arabians are bred for endurance and the throughbred blood lines is off of the Arabian's blood lines. The Anglo Arabian ( i think its spelled wrong) is a cross bewteen a arabian and a throughbred.....( well thats what I was told) I think that that breed would be pretty good at cross country if it had the proper stamina and training as some individual horses differ.

By cross country are you talking about eventing? If that's so, then look into the warmbloods, draft/TB crosses etc. A good QH/TB cross might also be a good choice - what you want is good bone and overall confirmation.
On the other hand, if you want to do cross-country competitions as in endurance - then what you really really need is a mule.
Don't frown on mules - they're great.

I would stay away from draft horses. You can look at quarter horses, warmbloods, TB's. It also depends on how high you want to event. If you want to event past training level, go for TB's and warmblood crosses. If you want to do long formats of eventing, then go with the TB's and warmblood crosses. Usually warmbloods dont have as much energy as the wamrbloods. Good Luck!

I have a tb and he is Pro at cross country.. but he does do quiet a bit of bolting during courses... as he is an ex racer and thinks he should go as fast as he can all the time... aparently Trakehners are good but i've had nuttin to do with them... we dont have that many here in Aust... warmbloods are good but tend to be a bit heavy on so a tb/warmblood cross is a good mix... i'd go for a tb... but just be careful what you buy... people lie about their history...

if you are looking under 15 hands, you may be looking more at the pony breeds, some of which are great jumpers - depens on the country you are in too, as QH's are not particularly common in the uk - but section D cobs are - i used to compete on my section D he had the springiest jump, obviously though i could not compete in upper levels as at 14.2 he was too small.
horses that are under 15 hands that are particularly athletic are 1. quarter horses - although not known specifically for their jumping.
2. welsh cob section d
3. as you are very light an arab would be good, as they are great for endurance
4. morgans are fab all round horses too
why stick to a breed though - youre best bet would be to get something small that has been crossed with a larger breed known for jumping, like a thouroughbred crossed with a pony, or an irish draught

Arabians are best for Cross-country, because their endurance capabilities are unrivaled in the world. The have a larger lung capacity, a denser bone structure and wider hooves, all making him an excellent cross-country prospect.
