Typically, before elections, politicians pull some stunt (referred to as "wag the dog") to pull up their ratings.
With some many things falling apart 1 mth before elections (eg. Foley scandal, Bob Woodward book, Iraq War), there is suddenly lots of attention to catch Al-Qaeda... Earlier today, they tried but failed to catch some Al-Qaeda leader. Some also said that Osama is already captured and that he will be produced just before the election.... :)

Have you heard of those global positioning devices they are going to be putting on convicted child molesters? I think it's a great idea. Personally, on one hand I feel like burning these pervs by the stake but I know that's a little over board. I heard the argument by a friend that some of these people commited these crimes once and that they want to just make things right and get on with their life but the fact that neiborhoods are alerted to a convicted child molester living near by makes their ability to start over nearly impossible. What are your thoughts?

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Federal Communications Commission kicks off the first of six planned public hearings Tuesday to discuss a number of broadcast ownership rules, including whether a single company should be able to own both a newspaper and a television station in the same market.

Clear Channel Communications Inc. (CCU), the nation's largest radio broadcaster with about 1,200 stations, is lobbying the FCC to increase the radio ownership limits in the largest markets, like Los Angeles.

The ownership rules exist because the broadcast airwaves are owned by the public and the law requires that the public interest be considered in how they are regulated. Too much control over the broadcast media in a market is deemed not in the public interest, though limits have been loosened over the years.

I am Canadian. I am sick and tired of the war and deception created by the US Government. I am tired of the US Government using scare tactics to bully other countries to conform to the 'American' way of life. I am sick that my fellow Canadians are sitting in Iraq, and Afghanistan dying for the war that was created by The US, and president Bush. I dont think its fair that my fellow Canadians are cleaning up the mess the US has made there. I am tired of the arrogance I find in some ( not all) American people. Who gave you the right to tell another culture how to live, who are you to tell them that the traditions these people up hold are wrong, or tell them they are pacticing the 'wrong' religion? I am truly sorry for the families who lost loved ones in the 9/11 attacks, and I am truly sorry for the families who have lost loved ones in the war. But when will it end? When will there be peace? It is one thing to send help, but another to take over a country for oil.

Guess what, the Republicans are using the Foley incident to keep focus away from a real issue..."State of Denial" by Bob Woodward!!

The Rep will use Foley as a punching bag and they will all publicly separate themselves from him, in the meantime the media will eat up this juicy tabloid scandal instead of addressing the very important information revealed in Woodward's book!! Oh yes, they let this story out, and they have all the strings in place just long enough for Woodward to end his 10 day cross country tour...once the book goes away in 2 weeks, so will Foley.

Okay, we all know Steve Irwin's supposed quote that if even if a gator was chewing him up, he still wanted the cameras rolling.

Well apperantly the Simpsons writers decided to have fun with that cause two years ago on an old episode of the Simpsons "Marge vs. Everyone", at the beginning Bart is watching an animated verison of Steve encountering a gator, and then the gator starts to rip him to pieces. Lisa then changes the channel to what she wants to see. Bart then grabs the remote and changes the channel back and we see that all that's left of Steve is a blooded arm and leg floating in the river.

Bart then complains that he "missed the feeding frenzy", meaning that like the people asking for the death video he actually wanted to see Steve die.

Due to recent events, do you think that this two year old bit is now inappropriate and tasteless and should be cut from further repeats?

Here's the clip from the ep:

A self-proclaimed Rev?Fred Phelps of the Topeko, KS Westboro Baptist church was planning a demonstration/picket at these poor girls funeral, all to draw attention to their cause. I am so glad that the Amish don't have electricity. I feel embarressed. And ashamed. Thinking that those wonderful, simple, God-loving people, could be watching or hearing what's going on in the news with this FARCE of a church, that want to do nothing but spread hate. They must really be a thorn in side for the good people of Topeka, and equally embarressed by them.

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday
to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to
head off potential terror attacks.

A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to
Australia at a special meeting with Prime Minister John Howard, he and his
ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown.

Treasurer Peter Costello, seen as heir apparent to Howard, hinted that
some radical clerics could be asked to leave the country if they did not
accept that Australia was a secular State and its laws were made by
parliament.

"If those are not your values, if you want a country that has Sharia law
or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you", he said on national
television.

"Immigrants, not Australians must adapt. Take it or leave it. I am tired
of this Nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or
their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we have experienced a
surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.

However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the
"politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that
our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration nor do I
hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to
Australia.

However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our
country, and apparently some who were born here, need to understand. The
idea of Australia being a multicultural community has served only to
dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Australians we have
our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle.

This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials
and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.
We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese or Arabic, Chinese,
Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you want to become
part of our society,...learn the language.

Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing,
political push but a fact because Christian men and women, on Christian
principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is
certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God
offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your
new home, because God is part of our culture.

We will accept your beliefs and will not question why, all we ask is that
you accept ours and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us. If the
Southern Cross offends you or you don’t like a "Fair Go" then you should
seriously consider a move to another part of this planet.

We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change and we really
don’t care how you did things where you came from. By all means, keep your
culture but do not force it on others.

This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE and we will allow you
every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining,
whining and griping about our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs or
Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other
great Australian freedom: THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

If you are not happy here then LEAVE. We didn’t force you to come here.
You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.

"I’d be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws
governing people in Australia, one the Australian law and another - the
Islamic law. That is false. If you can’t agree with parliamentary law,
independent courts, democracy and would prefer Sharia law and have the
opportunity to go to another country, which practices it, perhaps, then,
that’s a better option" Costello said.

Asked whether he meant radical clerics would be forced to leave, he said
those with dual citizenship could possibly be asked to move to the other
country.

Education minister Brendan Nelson later told reporters that Muslims who
do not want to accept local values should " clear off "

"Basically, people who don’t want to be Australians and they don’t want
to live by Australian values and understand them, well then they can
basically clear off" he said. Separately Howard angered some Australian
Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the
nations mosques.
